They brought the temps down a LITTLE bit from yesterday. Lets hope they come down some more and the threat of rain for Saturday goes away. |
|
Thanks Mark! I was going to look this up tonight--you saved me a little time. Lets do hope the rain goes away! It can rain Wednesday and get it over with!! |
It could even be cloudy. I'd be OK with that. Cooler temps & no rain would be all I would ask for. |

I would suggest that everyone look into getting a portable fan for your sheepdog. Here is one that I own from Walmart that I use at agility and even on Harry in the car to help circulate the air. It is fairly reasonable and runs on D batteries. http://www.walmart.com/ip/O2Cool-10-Bat ... r/15522388 I also have this one that is a little more costly but has a bit more power. It came from Home Depot. Don't be fooled by the fan price - you will need a rechargable battery that costs more than the fan. http://www.homedepot.com/buy/appliances ... 22840.html It is going to be REALLY HOT here. So if your dog doesn't need to be in full coat and you have a grooming appointment this week you may want to consider a puppy cut plus shaving their belly to help keep cool. |
I just purchased that portable fan today at Wal-Mart. Our Home Depot was out--going to check Lowes tomorrow for one with a little more power. |
I have the O2Cool fan too - I've had it for years. Broke the battery compartment cover, but tape works well! ...and then I just realized I need one for Bond too! a'shopping I will go tomorrow! |
I also bought these spray bottles, that have fans on them. Like your own personal mister. Frankie loves it. Lisa Frankie nd Mattie |
I'm going to pick up one of these fans this week also. Going to be a hot weekend for sure. Cindy |
So it looks like the temps went up. Ugh. It's neat as the TV station changes their graphic, it changes here. |
Temps went UP some more but the threat of rain is gone now. Isn't weather forecasting great? Is it too late to move Sheepiepalooza to a pool or lake? |
The rain would bring down the temps some...but I'll take the heat. |
Although I am sure the weather will be hot and sticky...BUT, us, St. Louisans know that our weather can change from minute to minute......We all need to plan for the worst and hope for the best!!!! In addition to the fans, shading and plenty of water,,,,,I am going to bring my cooling mat ~~~ Heart seems to like it and it seems to help her keep her cool....She is going to the groomers on Wednesday for a full spa day...My groomer will be shaving her underbelly so, that will also help her keep KOOL...... Sheepiepalooza will be here in the blink of an eye~~~And whatever the weather....WE will have a great time!!!! We just need to make sure our furbabies do not overheat .....Being Sheepieowners, we all know how heat and humidity affects our 'kids'... |
I got a fan at walmart yesterday. We have a pop up canopy, should we bring that?? |
Val~Where do you get a cooling mat? |
Dogs shaved down...check! Two shiny new fans...check, check!! Cooler(s) ready for mountains of ice...check, check, check!!! Usually if I want this kind of heat in May I have to visit my parents in Arizona |
Tonks and Luna were shaved back in April; we're ready for the heat! I doubt St. Louis can throw anything at us that Atlanta hasn't already been dishing out! But just to be safe, I'm going to try and see if I can find one or two of those portable fans |
I'm gonna find a fan today after work. Where could I get a cooling mat? And where could I find that umbrella/canopy combo that Judi showed in another thread? Brick's been clipped. And I'll bring the clippers in case Zeke needs a clip. |
Got the fan. REALLY striking out on the cooling mat. Wal Mart, Pet Smart, and Petco do NOT have these. Any other places I could get a cooling mat? |
I got my cooling mat from Petedge. Sadly, when lab Biscuit was a puppy, he ate the plug and they don't sell replacements. Had to throw it away Good job Todd!! (he left it in the kennel,...duh!) |
My vote is for the very pricey Ryobi fan from Home Depot because it is the best one I've ever found. It has enough power to really push some air - a switch for low or high volume and the battery lasts for about 4-5 hours on high, which is enough to get us through the hottest part of the day at a dog show or an agility trial. Mine has lasted through many years of hard use already and still going strong. So, the initial outlay is a lot, but you are not constantly buying "D" batteries to keep your fan going. Recharging time is a couple of hours. http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R ... reId=10051 BUT, not only do you need to buy the fan itself, you need the 18v. battery for $40 and the battery charger for $30, so you are out a lot of money in the end for this system. (unless your DH already happens to have the battery and the battery charger for some of the other Ryobi tools, drill, etc.) Just my opinion. Linda Zimmerman & Hudson, Chloe & Kristy |
Just looked at one forecast, and they are saying 97, 98 for Saturday and Sunday in St Louis. Then I checked MN, and they are saying we are actually COOLING off for the weekend, down in the 77, 78 range. Darn! |
We are hitting kiddie pools filled with ice territory...and that's for me Seriously, we are planning for the dogs, but everyone make sure to take care of yourself too!! Bring hats, cool clothes, sunscreen and anything else you might need We can't take care of our pups unless we take care of ourselves |

Linda Zimmerman & Hudson, Chloe & Kristy I purchased that fan yesterday and the gentleman that was helping me suggested the upgrade to the ion battery--it charges in just an hour and he said would probably last 7 to 8 hours. In order to save a little money he suggested this upgrade kit--which will charge both types of batteries. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/sto ... =202564061 |
I tried to buy that fan, but when I gave them the SKU number in the link, I got one that's different looking. Can't find a pic of the one I got. We'll see if it works. |

The Home Depot in my town was out of the one I wanted. Luckily there are multiple Home Depot Stores in the Nashville area so I was able to locate it not too far from me. The guy at my store tried to talk me into another one--but my handyman said no--get this one as the battery will work with other things-- So I went on a mission to find it. Mission accomplished finally! Just thought you might want to know. |
I looked at a cooling mat today, and realized that the hotel rooms don't have fridges, and there's no place to chill the packs that do the cooling. So I went looking for that fan instead, and struck out. Maybe I can swing by Home Depot tomorrow. |

The cool mat I had didn't use any packs that had to be chilled - just water. |
I am getting excited and havent a clue what is going on... |
got sheep wrote: My room has a fridge... Supposed to, anyway! I looked on the website, and it didn't list fridges or microwaves. Sort of makes my prepping the dogs meals a little tough, as I do freeze dried veggies and like to heat water to bring them back to life with. got sheep wrote: The cool mat I had didn't use any packs that had to be chilled - just water. Is it battery operated? the one I looked at had rows and rows of these packs that had to be frozen. |

If the ground was hot, or in the sun it didn't work. But at a show, on a floor or cement it worked great. |
Allison, give the hotel a call. Some rooms come with micro-fridges. |
It's cooler before we get there and cool after we leave. Awesome!! |
CamVal1 wrote: It's cooler before we get there and cool after we leave. Awesome!! I noticed that too! |
I found a local company that makes a really cool product. I am hoping to buy one to bring to sheepiepalooza. The price is kind of steep, but it's a raised bed and a fan all in one! Here is the youtube video: |

LOL! |
that cot is really a great idea. My sisters and I take our dogs camping with us all summer and this would be great for them. Ill have to share this with them. |
The company that makes the cots is internet based, but their facility is only about 15 minutes from my house. I called them today asking if I could purchase and pick up at their facility because I need the cot for this weekend. They were soooo nice and said they would have it ready by tomorrow afternoon for me!!!!! I will bring it to the picnic for Millie, and you can all check it out. I really hope it is as good as I want it to be. Great idea, and hopefully a great product. |
You should see if you could grab some business cards and flyers too; maybe your having it at the picnic will result in some sale! |
