I'm curious about this diet too. And too lazy to read any official book! |
I tried for a little bit. Mr. J is a big big believer in it, but it's too expensive ....inconvenient ...not realistic for how busy "my house" is. When we win the lottery, I'll have all the time in the world to eat what a caveman would. For now, I do my best to eat as close to it as possible but if I find gluten free goodies that are piled with unhealthy chemicals, man-made crap... then I WILL indulge. It's very rare though (up until I got sick, it was VERY often). I think it's so great and I'm jealous of those who can commit to it!!! |
It's neat, but I think we're not realizing that people HAVE evolved quite a bit since paleolithic times, particularly affected by diet. The introduction of animal husbandry, milk from domestic animals, then agriculture has affected our digestive system. And of course, the contemporary lifestyle of most people, even extremely active people, is radically different then it was thousands of years ago. |
I also think we should look at the life span of humans in the paleo era vs today. Adequate nutrition contributes to a longer life span, as do vaccinations. |
I read this as 'paella' diet and I got very very excited!! I am so disappointed. We should have a paella diet! |
Ha ha! I like the idea of a "paella" diet too! Bring it on! And I agree humans have evolved in the millon years since the cave man. I feel the same way when people talk about feeding dogs raw - like their "ancestors" the wolf. Not to get into a controversial subject, just saying... |
I was just trying to figure out what "Paelo" was by the title...and skimmed over the topic..... Then realized you meant Paleo when people replied! |
Though I admit I am about to preach what I don't practice yes, food and humans have evolved...but so have obesity, diabetes, asthma, cardiac disease, and a multitude of other things that I can't even begin to imagine... Michael and I tried a 45-day challenge of a whole food diet - as I wanted to see for myself if what the physicians were claiming were true (if you haven't seen it....watch Forks over Knives...very interesting). I am what many may call "skeptic" of all things - I don't trust much of anything without hard proof... Well - my migraines suddenly stopped, my allergies decreased to almost nonexistent, and Michael went off his Prilosec, and both of us had an increase in energy. I am a believer - unfortunately - I am so busy I am hooked into the convenient foods as much as everyone else. Within a little over a month of going off the diet...migraines returned (though - luckily not the frequency or severity they were prior) and Michael is back on his Prilosec and tummy issues. My energy is zero (though, admittedly, a bit of water a day would probably help this too ). We never did the diet to lose weight - nor looked at it as a diet - but recognized we have to get healthier. We aren't spring chickens anymore. I think the success of changing to vegetarian, vegan, whole foods, Paelo, etc...has to be seen as a lifestyle change and a true commitment for sure... which stinks...cause Michael and I didn't do either I truly think that our over processed and genetically altered food has a LOT to do with the state of general health of our world. But ....hey ...no worries...we have machines and all sorts of technology to keep us alive forever ...oops...I think I thought I was in my Ethics class discussion board... |
Oh, I agree about processed foods. I cok just about everything from scatch. No processed foods here in a long time.I have found if you can plan ahead, its just as quick to make a marinara sauce as it is to open the jar. And its just as quick to steam fresh veggies as it takes to open the can...But you have to plan ahead to have everything handy! |

Where did you get your food when you were on the whole food diet? And what kinds of things did you eat? Me and Jacob want to try whole foods, we just don't know where to start really. I'm hoping it will help Jacob with his tummy issues as well. |
