He is too skinny and we are trying to switch his protein source per recommendations from our breeder. She recommended Proplan Lamb and Rice. However, one local store that sells proplan (Petsmart) rarely carries Lamb and Rice formula!!!!!! Can anyone recommend some good Lamb based dog food that hasn't been recalled or has known to cause problems?? Thank You! |

I feel like some foods have too many complex ingredients |
You might try this one too. Be sure to compare calories of old food per cup to new food per cup to be sure you're increasing calories to help him along with a gradual weight gain. If pet stores don't stock it, you might try feed stores (like horse, sheep, etc. type farm stores). http://www.nutrisourcedogfood.com/nutri ... ts/gf_lamb NutriSource Grain Free Lamb Meal 506 kcal per cup 28% protein 18% fat Quote: Ingredients Lamb meal, peas, salmon meal (a source of fish oil), pea starch, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), pea flour, natural flavors, tomato pomace, sunflower oil, dried egg product, potassium chloride, brewers yeast, salt, minerals (zinc proteinate, iron proteinate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, cobalt proteinate, selenium yeast), yeast culture (saccharomyces cerevisiae, enterococcus faecium, lactobacillus acidophilus, aspergillus niger, bacillus subtillis), choline chloride, taurine, vitamins (vitamin A acetate, vitamin D3 supplement, vitamin E supplement, niacin, d-calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin supplement, folic acid, biotin, vitamin B12 supplement), glucosamine hydrochloride, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), chondroitin sulfate, yucca schidigera extract, calcium iodate, rosemary extract. |
I find it annoying too that I can never find ProPlan lamb. I am tempted to order it online. |
Thanks Jaci! It sounds like something I may have to look online for...... I mean, do dogs really need all the extracts Schidigera (?) and glucosamine, chondrontin etc in their food??? Kim If I have to go the online route, then I might as well look into ordering Proplan Lamb & rice.... |
You've seen how Nelson bulked up on Holistic Select. There are several other stores in Cincinnati that carry Pro-Plan. Check out Complete Petmart for starters. We used to have to go there to buy Innova and Holistic Select but now our local feed & seed have those. Guess you don't have feed & seeds in Hyde Park. |
Do you have a Pet Supplies Plus in your area? I feed ProPlan Lamb & Rice Shredded blend & they always have it. The 1st thing people ask me about Mariah after asking her age is "What do you feed her?" |
I use the one Jaci gave the link for - NutriSource. Made in MN too, at it's own plant...safe so far! |
Charm has been eating Taste of the Wild roasted lamb at the advice of her breeder. It's an all stage blend, but she began at ten months. Grain free, loaded with fruits and vegetables and is full of antioxidants. She has thrived on it. It's always available at Tractor Supply stores, or farm supply companies in our area. |
Cincinnati is large enough to have independent pet stores. Try them. The one we've switched to does not carry "crap" dog food, but rather the higher quality brands. I will admit, with all this Chinese contamination, I'm leery about dog food in general. Returning to raw feed is looking better and better.......... |
