Funny that you ask, I just heard about this book last week. It's taking my area by storm. My girlfriends, 55+, are reading it covertly; and the younger crowd 25+ are devouring it publicly here. I have it downloaded on my kindle,(covert type ) but am waiting till I have time to devote to a good book. Im definitely going to read it. My older friends are saying that while they like it, their husbands are really enjoying it |
Yes, That's what I heard The local tv stations here are calling it "Mommy Porn"! |
They've banned the book from one of the libraries here in Florida. lol |
Better look this one up!!! lol |
I'm looking online on my library website.... Is it the 50 Shades of Grey by E L James? or Shades of grey : the road to High Saffron Author: Fforde, Jasper. |
Funny this should come up. I just FB posted a request to my friends to let me know if the book gets better after the first 1/3. So far it's been a "skip read" book. Too much rambling with no point. I'm not a Danelle Steele fan and never have cared for romance novels. There is only so many heaving breasts and torn shirts before it becomes mindless. Shades of Grey is an attempt at mainstream erotica, or Mommy porn. If you want erotica, Amazon has an extensive selection both new and classic with a plot. If true erotica is a little too much for your taste, try reading Anne Rice, She can spin a tale of lust and keep your interest. |
Dawn, it's EL James |
Oh, half of my friends that responded to my request said the plot/story doesn't get better and continue only for the porn. Most of them didn't bother finishing the book. |
I read it when it was still only in e-format to see what all the fuss was about. Mommy porn definitely describes it best. It's definitely soft porn and sexist porn to boot. Does the plot get better? There is no plot to get any better and it stays plotless throughout. I'm embarrassed to say an Aussie e-publisher is responsible. |

I'm reading it now. I've always been a fan of romance novels and this definitely ups the ante in the sex-capades department. I'm on book 2, the first being pretty dark. It definitely lightens up in the 2nd book and the story is decent. I think the story line, though, is what's giving it all the fame. Dominant/Submissive relationship explored to the max in the first book...it's not really been done in such mainstream before. I would read it if you have time. If anything else, it will definitely give you some great ideas to try in the bedroom! |
Just finished the series. If you're my friend on Facebook, you probably saw my scathing review. It's not very nice. I am no prude, let me tell you. I know how that stuff works. This is poorly written drivel. It was originally Twilight fan fiction. So basically, you have a female character with as much personality as Bella, who is possibly dumber than most grocery store produce, and a male character that is so impossibly unbelievable that it's frankly hysterical. If you have a brain, don't bother reading it. If you have a wish to have your grey matter pouring out your ears, be my guest. But I'll judge you. |
Roz - I totally felt that way by the end of the series! If I read "bemused" or "mecurial" one more time I would probably have screamed! I'm not sure how I even finished it. I was sooo annoyed with both characters, the writing was horrific, and the plot seemed completely unbelieveable. oh well...only another book that stole a few days out of my life |

Anytime you ban something, the public demands access to it. Mob rules mentality. Vance |
