It was an exhausting weekend with us thrown into the deep-end of dog handling and dog shows, but we had a lot of fun, and we learned a LOT in 48 hours. We have a lot of great photos and video we'll have to post. We got to meet Ali and I was able to hug her three dogs a lot, especially Checkers, littermate to lil'Butterball Heart, and Lucie, littermate to Abby and Murphy. Amber also has some exciting news from the weekend but I'll let her share it first! (damn, I wish I had had my hair cut... ) |

Congratulations!!!! |
Yay Gracie!!! Congrats! |
AWESOME!!!! |
Very sweet!!! About that haircut...or lack of... And I thought Kim was going to show her??? Gracie! |
Awesome! Congratulations!! Yay Gracie! Can't wait to hear all about it!! |
I didn't realize Mudface was going into the ring!! Wow! |
Great job Gracie, I knew that adorable mud face had it in her. Championship here we come. And I agree Dawn, I thought Kim was showing her. What happened? Congratulations David and Gracie |
Little Lizzy wrote: And I agree Dawn, I thought Kim was showing her. What happened? Kim showed her the first day, I showed her the subsequent days. We'll see how we mix it up going forwards. And I can't believe it, literally, within 5 minutes of getting home, the little rat had mud and dirt all over her whites... She could use another bath already. She was super excited about seeing Virginia and Mady again, she just went bonkers! SheepieBoss wrote: I didn't realize Mudface was going into the ring!! Wow! That was the plan all along! Gracie is co-owned with Amber and Amber chose her for showing. Of course neither of us has ever done shown a dog. We signed up for a conformation handling course, and with really bad luck, it was delayed, and we only had 1 class before this weekend. I really like the instructor for the handling class (a CKC herding class judge!) and it's too bad we didn't get the full course in before the show. We were also really happy the way it worked out, spending a long weekend with just Gracie. This was the first time she's been with just mommy and daddy, and it felt like we really got to know her; I think she deserved this alone time, and of course, we just love her all the more now. |
Congratulations to all of you. |
Congrats to all |
Congrats to Gracie!!! You sure had a lot of fun then........it's a lot of work too. |
Thanks, and I must admit, I absolutely love the "Baby Puppy" title. She most definitely is my best baby puppy! |
CONGRATS! |
I also realize I'll have to get a suit! |
Well done. Looks like every you all done well this weekend |
Congrats!!! I love the titles of classes you all have in America and Europe - ours in the UK are so boring! Looking forward to the suit and hair cut. Poor Gracie of course she wants to get all dirty <G> |
WOW, you didn't even HINT at this. Congratulation!!! Kim, if I can take Simon into the agility ring, you CAN do the showmanship. Go get that suit and get busy. David has Mady, you have Gracie....you got the better deal...the baby. |
Congrats! That's an awesome way to start out! You guys looked great in the pictures! Cindy |
I think that my cunning plan backfired. David was quite hesitant about the whole showing thing so I thought I could hook him if he took a turn in the ring. And it worked. It worked too well, now he wants to hog it all for himself! The weekend was so much fun. I enjoyed meeting Ali and got to know some of the other sheepie people. Folks were very supportive and encouraging, particularly Samantha, Amber's daughter and, of course, Amber herself who had to give us a crash course in stacking. I can't wait for the next handling class. I think that I will get even more out of it now that I have a better sense of what goes on at a show. Of course, the best part was all of the gorgeous sheepdogs and listening to the stories of some of the more experienced sheepie people. It was a very positive experience all around for us and I am looking forward to the next one! |
So when and where is the next one? |
Congratulations to all!!! |
Little Lizzy wrote: So when and where is the next one? The next Old English Sheepdog & Owners Club of Canada national specialty will be out west next year but then will come back east. It alternates east and west each year. But there are other regular dog shows and we will certainly be going to some of those. We need to sit with a calendar and figure out our summer. Um, if I still have a job this summer and the money to pay for this stuff!! |
BIG congratulations to Gracie (aka), Mudface....LOL! Thank you for sharing this exciting news. Robin |

Well done "Possums" |

When Ziggi goes, one or two of those sweet girls can come live at my house. They can visit you and David regularly and that makes more room for a baby boy or two. Just trying to help Kim |
Congratulations David, Kim, and Miss Gracie! What a great start! "Best baby puppy" title- that's really too tender. And Kim, Winston will always be your honourary baby boy Sheepie. I wonder if Gracie will be too snooty to play with Winston now that she's a beauty queen like her Mum....not that Mady would let anyone else play with him/(boss him around) anyway. Congrats again! Christina + Pierre + Winston |
Congratulations David, Gracie & Kim! Looking forward to playing with little mudface at Sheepiepalooza. I have been pining a bit for a baby boy lately, but there is a 3 dog limit here. Oh Kim...you can play with Howie, and your fix for a boy pup will be quenched! Howie is great, but not a gentle bone in his body, he is all rough and tumble. peg & howie (aka tank) |

In reference to the above - would this be the Samantha who has a big brag..? Hm???? Am I missing where Amber shares that? Just wanted to let you know that the American National Specialty is in West Bend, WI, in September this year. Gracie will be more than six months old by then... AND, though this doesn't apply to you and David, we are offering a Junior Showmanship Seminar...and Junior Showmanship competition (judged by Linda Jordan, an AKC breeder judge whose own daughter did exceedingly well as a junior once upon a time, and so is very supportive of the event) just saying..... http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamer ... tional.php Congratulations to the Canadians in general for a nicely put together National Specialty. I hear Amber and her husband are in no small reponsible for that. Knowing how much work goes into these events, kudos to all who were involved in organizing the event. It sounds like a good time was had by all. Including Gracie and co Kristine |
Congrats! |
So it seems I'm a bit late to the party... First off, we knew Gracie would do well. And I knew that both Kim and David would too. What I've always noticed is that the more folks fret over doing something like this, they in the end do rather well and this is because it matters to them. It clearly mattered to Kim and David. So congrats to all three of you. Vance |
