Originally we thought it was part of his OCD (seizure meds) and anxiety around new home again, that he kept intemittently chewing and pulling out hair on his hip even though the anal gland issue had been resolved. Well, the good boy that he is, on our way to the vet for routine blood levels, he cleared a good sized area during the car ride (I think he was worried I'd forget to mention it unless there was glaring evidence...) The vet was looking at it and wanted to do a swab. She found quite a bit of bacteria and put him on some antibiotics + a topical to clear it out. She pretty much ruled out allergies due to the look of it and the limited location. We chatted a bit about adding fish oil to the pill count to possibly help with the skin. I've seen here and there posts on skin issues, and would love to get some feedback on frequency of baths, length of coat, fish oil or any other OES trade secrets that might be out there. He came already diagnosed with wheat allergies and is on salmon/sweet potato dry food only. Can we all just agree that this is the final medical issue for us? At least for now? Can I hear an AMEN???? Thanks in advance. Salla. |

I don't know about OES specific skin issues, but Bailey used to itch and it stopped when we switched her food. Other than that I don't really know. Hopefully this is the end of his medical problems though! |
Hip chewing for Jack was pain in the joints.......anyway, my MOs recent nose problem...skin bacterial infection....vet highly recommended Omega 3 and Omega 6 along with niacinimide....not niacin....for skin. There's a product called DermaPet but vet was out of her sample and I didn't want to order it on line. Instead found a salmon oil liquid at the pet store. Couldn't face another pill for that old lady. I open the niacinimide onto her food, cover it with fish oil and top with kefir. All disappears quickly. Her nose is healing nicely. |
