I was thrilled that this evenings newspaper had an article on the Best Places in North America that are considered Pet Friendly. It was started by a couple 8 years ago whom found it difficult to book hotels with their Standard Poodle accompanying them. Although some hotels claim to be pet friendly they found most had strict rules and regulations concerning dogs...such things as they couldn't be over 10 pounds. They founded www.petfriendly.ca which list cities all over North America which cater to both humans and dogs. The article went on to show a photo of a very high end hotel room in my city, A large Husky being given a water bottle by a tuxedoed waiter! Hee Hee! Love it!! Here's the ratings and my city placed second in terms of being pet friendly regarding accomodations for people and pets. Yeah!! Toronto placed 10th..so 2 cities in Canada made it. Toronto placed first in terms of transportation as well behaved dogs are allowed on the trains and subways. Vancouver placed first in terms of the many outdoor cafes which don't mind if you have your dog with you outside. The hinderance however was our rainy weather in the spring months. Right now our weather has been close to the 90's so rainy season is over now! Yipiii!!! #1 Chicago #2 Vancouver #3 Boston #4 San Francisco #5 Seattle #6 Salt Lake City #7 San Diego #8 Tucson #9 San Antonio #10 Toronto So there you have it...no excuse for anyone not to visit me!! Most Cool!!! My son is getting married this summer in Washington DC, I've been stressing over the little dog. Tasker loves to go to "doggie camp" but I'm not comfortable leaving the baby. The reception is at the Fairmont which is absolutely gorgeous and pet friendly but also about $400 a night!!!! So I've been trying to find an affordable place to stay that I can bring Ty. This is very helpful. Thanks. |
Marianne,
Thanks so much for the website ! We love visiting Canada, we went to the Worlds Fair in Vancouver years ago, beautiful city. The Fair was awesome, well organized and lots of fun!!!! We traveled on VIA, the scenery was beautiful ! We love New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, and Ottawa Would love to visit Calgary, and work our way west ! It would be great to visit Vancouver again !!!! Zahra PS- Glad to see Boston made the list. When you, Merlin and Panda visit Boston, we would be happy to show you around! Lots of nice places in Massachusetts to visit. But then again, all the states have interesting places to see! |
Hi,
Taskers Mom so glad I could help! Your son is getting married - that's got to be a wonderful experience! I hadn't checked out the website myself but the newspaper mentioned that the couple is happy to answer questions and info on their site so perhaps they can help you find a hotel. Good Luck! Zahra - Thanks for the compliments about my city, but I'm biased and agree it's a beautiful place although I now live in the burbs about 30 mins away. Hey I've been to Massachusettes!!! I agree it's soooo beautiful!! I worked in Upstate NY three years ago. I met a woman whom had relatives in Massachusettes and travelled with her... (Didn't make it to Boston which I had always wanted to visit.) Next we visited Rhode Island and even stayed in Nantucket for a week where I found myself writing beautiful poetry! ha Ha! Gawd is that place expensive! All the money I made on my job I later spent travelling, but in hindsight the memories were sure worth it! It was the first time I had travelled that far east in the US as I've seen the West Coast several times. I wanna go back some day! Zahra, I haven't even been to New Brunswick, PEI or any of those places on the East coast - I'm jealous as that's on my wish list some day. Of course this was before Merlin and Panda came into my life, so it was easier to get away for long periods. My sister stayed at my place so Shaggy and Blue were well looked after. On second thought forget about hotels...you guys can always stay with me! More sheepdogs!! Merlin and Panda would be fine...although Blue is rather grumpy with anyone that he thinks is trying to take his place. Marianne |
That's great Marianne!! Glad you liked Massachusetts, its
unique, lots of history.... The islands are expensive, we haven't gone I get seasick really bad You must see Boston next visit !! Its a terrific city, great for walking--Boston Common is fun, the swanboat rides are unique !!! We lived in Rhode Island for 17 years across from Newport, beautiful beaches and great restaurants... You would love East Coast Canada-its all beautiful, we visited Cape Brenton which was the most lovely place- you could see the whales splashing off shore!!! That reminds me, I need to check what Canada requires for your dog to enter the country... Now I'm feeling like travelling, Banff here we come!!! |
