Drawing More Sheepies Today

I got it into my head that I want to create a fabric pattern with an "all-over" sheepdog print. Mostly because I think that said fabric would make a cute apron, and the only "all-over" OES fabric I've seen is fleece, and not at all good for something like a retro styled apron. So I'm going to try to spend today creating the art that I can then make into a good pattern for fabric; Wish me luck!

You'll do great! Please share the
design with us when it's done? :D
Have I mentioned that I collect retro aprons? lol

Sheepie fabric would be freaking AWESOME!

You have not! Also not mentioned? If I can get the pattern done, and a sample shipped to me within the next few weeks, said apron will be my Sheepie Palooza auction donation! :crossed: Fingers crossed I can get it all done in time!
Wow what a neat concept! :D

I cant wait to see it! How does one go about getting a design turned into finished fabric, by the way?
I can't wait to see this one!!! :D
Laurel: if you go to Spoonflower.com, you can upload any images and create a fabric! I'd love to see some of your lovely pieces on textiles!!!!

Dawn: Its a big piece; I've bitten off a bit much. So far I have a line-up of 7 full coated sheepies drawn out, waiting for color. Once I'm done, I'll scan it into photoshop and see if I can create a repeating pattern with it. I'd also like to create something complimentary- maybe a pattern with foot prints or something that can be drawn is matching colors and used as fabric for trim or lining!

That sounds good. Is it full bodies/action poses, or just mug shots?
I like the repeating idea - it worked well on the fleece OES one we have. The complimenting fabric idea - I love that! Lots of work, but really a good (and needed) item for your project!

I'm drawing seated full bodies, but once I start to layer them on one another, you may only see heads and chests.
Can't wait to see what you come up with!!!
Full frontal, like a keyhole? Yeah, feet will be lost but a way cute idea!
  I am in awe of your talent and creative ability.

Can't wait to see what you come up with!! :excited:
I've made a little progress. I started the drawing, and then it sat on my table neglected until tongiht when I started to add color. This is the original drawing:

and the first few dogs colored:

I'm hoping to make more progress tomorrow.
Awesome!!!
Love it Allison! Great work!
Far beyond what I was expecting.......truly awesome!

right now I'm using mostly the cool gray set of brush tipped Copic markers, plus a few pinks for tongues.
WOW!
Beautiful!
2 more dogs drawn, taking me past the half-way point!

I don't sew--but that fabric will be so awesome that I will order it and find someone to make something for me from it!! :D
Wow. Just, wow.
So what/who are you using for models?
Did you find individual pics of sheepdogs?
Or is everything from your head?
okay; just one dog left to draw. So with any luck, I'll have the fabric pattern done to show everyone tomorrow!

No; its not from my head-- I'm not that good. I've gone through all my old photos to put my reference together. So pictures I took at Westminster, Sheepie Palooza, local events, Sheepdog day in the Park... that sort of thing. I do change up the markings and the coat types; I might make a dog have a full white head, or try and draw a shaved dog as one with a full coat. But I need to see the general structure to be able to draw it.
I wish I had a quarter of your talent.
Just spectacular :cheer: :cheer: Regardless of fabric print, I would like that line up of fur babies as a wall hanging/painting

Just amazing and ever so gorgeous. :cheer:  :cheer: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:
Here it is! The finished artwork! Now to try and see if I can create a fabric pattern using it....

And how will we be able to buy a bolt of this fabric?

Vance
Vance, once I get it all worked out, I can post a link for anyone that is interested
Sweeeet!!! Jen will love this. She hand hade a dozen or so teddy bears back before her arthritis kicked in and I'll talk her sister into making something for her bear out of this. Thanks Allison!!!

Vance
That is awesome!!!
BEAUTIFUL, Allison!
This is just fantastic, Allison! I'm in love! :hearts: Might there be prints available someday, as well as fabric? :plead:
okay- here is a sample of the pattern I've built in Photoshop. I'm trying to upload a complimentary border pattern, but am having a hard time. I'll let everyone know when its done.

I love it!!!!

What size will the figures be on the print??? or how many dogs/sq foot??? :D

I'm not 100% sure. I know what size I made it, but when I put it up on Spoonflower.com it changed. So once my yardage arrives (in about 10 days) I'll take a photo of it.

and there might be a place on Spoonflower.com where the buyer can change the size to be as large or as small as you want.

This is my border print; its supposed to have 7 dogs every 10 inches:

Interesting...so they will (if kept to your scale) be pretty decent sized. :)

I can't wait to see the fabric when you get it back!
Love Love love it Allison!! Can think of all kinds of wonderful ways to use this!!
Speechless!! 8O It's so beautiful!

So........do we know any of these dogs?

I don't know; I changed alot of the markings to protect the innocent.... :lmt:
Very nice art work.

For what it is worth, if you want to use the fabric to make a retro styled apron and such, I would use the drawings of the dogs all lined up as a border, rather than an all over pattern. Think about retro aprons (or retro wall paper borders) and you'll have the idea. Contrasting pattern could be any small repeat--even a check or a plaid, but something like paw prints or very simplified OES in profile.

Just a thought.

Yes, a print to frame would be awesome!

DITTO! Just beautiful!
The fabric arrived! I'm SOOOOOOO happy with how this turned out! I've got a sewing date this Sunday; so its plenty of time to make something for the Sheepie Palooza auctions!

It's here, it's here!

On the kitchen counter, so people can see the scale of the print:

Tonks doesn't see what the big deal is...
and I should add, here is the link to the website where I have it listed:

http://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/oesgirl

I just got the least expensive fabric they offer; they call it Kona Cotton. Its not inexpensive, but its the lowest priced one they have. I like it A LOT and would totally make garments from it. Their organic cotton knit was really nice too, and its what the shorts I'm donating to the auction are made from.
Very very nice Allison! Can't wait to see what you make! I love the design and the fabric sounds nice. :D
I just got it out of the laundry; it washed up really soft and nice; I'm tempted to change my mind on what I'm making. I was going to do an apron, but with it being such a nice soft fabric, I'm considering making pajama pants instead.
That was REALLY fast! 8O :D It looks great too! :clappurple:

Ohhhh--I vote for pajama pants--and be sure to make them in my size! :D At least a 33 inch inseam!
Wow that awesome. Looks great. Hmmmm... I like this concept creating your own fabrics design.
If there are pajama pants at the auction made out of that material. Well, ladies game on. I will take a picture of me in my new sheepie pajama pants.
the problem with pajama pants... what size do I make them?!? I may go with a generous Medium, and hope for the best.
Darth Snuggle wrote:

You could auction off a pair made to the size of the winner (to be made and mailed after sheepiepalooza)....obviously they wouldn't walk away with them, but that way everyone could bid....drive up the bids :high5:

Or a thought for raising money in the future.
now that I'm looking at my patterns, I may not have ordered enough fabric for a nice set of PJs. So I may be back at the apron idea.
Love the fabric Allison! :hearts: :hearts:

Would it be a terrible idea to just donate the raw fabric?? That way someone could make whatever they wanted from it (I have to check to see if my daughter-in-law can sew :sidestep: ).
I did think about it, but I sort of wanted to make something so that anyone could try and win it. Also, I didn't order a whole lot; 2 yards of the repeat sheepies, and 1 yard of the striped ones. So its a bit limiting on what could be made.
