Sheepies in UK

I don't know if this is a right place to start this topic but...

If everything goes well me and my sheepie Tedi are going to move to UK in summer or fall for a year! I know that in this forum there are some sheepie owners from the UK. Currently I'm thinking of moving to Southampton or somewhere south.. Are there a lot of dog parks etc where dogs can run free as much as they want? Also I would like to know everything necessary concerning living with a dog there. Is it hard to get an apartment with dog?
I'm just so excited about the idea of moving there! Is there some other forum especially for UK sheepiepeople?

I dont think there is just a uk sheepie forum. if you look at Bloobloos posts, Sam made a map of UK folks. We are very friendly....xxx
Here is the thread that Sue is speaking of - http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=37234 .

The folks from the UK seem to be a great bunch. If you don't have fun with them, I'd have to say it's your own fault...

That i a bit of a way from myself. If you want to move south go to Swindon or Reading. Its no too far south & good access to travel to the North of the UK. Do you have a job around Southampton. We don't have dog parks but just parks & 99% of opern areas will allow you go for walks with your dog
Hi, We are in Wolverhampton, close to welsh border (but not in wales) About 15minutes away from Birmingham.
Southampton? Is that as far as devon/cornwall, or closer to bristol?
Hope you find your new lives in uk fab! Good luck
Hi .

I can't help with the South bit because I'm in the North :)

One of our national dog charities do a section on letting with pets .It might be a useful read for you.

Thank you all! I'm having a job interview there in a couple of weeks.. I'm so nervous already but hope all goes well and we can move there :)
We don't tend to have formal dog parks that much in my experience, just lots of parks and open accessable land with public footpaths etc

Depending where you are depends what you'll have access to.

A lot of it comes down to common sense in reality, near roads etc dogs on leads but away from the roads especially when fenced off fields or parks then it depends on local bylaws as to whether dogs are allowed off the leash, I am lucky and have ready access to public space and farmers fields where Archie can romp away.

Good luck with the interview.
I got the job! So we are moving to Southampton in July. I'm so excited :) There are a lot of parks and forest in Southampton so I think that we will be good with Tedi there.
We are currently training rally obedience and I would like to continue that in the UK also.. Where can I find dog training classes in Southampton? Do most of them have their own websites? We have also been training agility, obedience and herding.. It would be nice to continue doing something there!

I also want to go to a show or two in England, but I don't really know how they work! First of all, where can I find schedules for shows in 2012 and in 2013. We've been in a lot of shows in Finland, but if anyone is going after July to some show it would be awesome if we could tag along and someone could teach me the basics in English shows :)

Hope that oes-people in the UK will arrange some meetups, we will definitely be there also! I have a car with me so we are very free to go nearly anywhere in the UK.

Now I'll start to hunt us an apartment! I think that Tedi is so adorable that we can get some flat with him :)
I'm in the US so not of any help, but wanted to congradulate you on your new job and wish you well on your move and your new beginnings.

Huge congrats on the job and I hope the house hunt is going well.

Most parks allow dogs, however, you may need to keep Tedi on the lead due to wildlife etc.

There are various shows within the year, my best advice as everything is on one sheet is to ask the Greater London OES Club for a Show Guide (normally around the £2.50 price) - http://www.gloesc.org/apps/webstore/

Give me a yell if you need further information - I am in Essex, so in the South-ish area. Looking forward to meeting you shortly. Ahh as a word of warning the Olympics are on between 27th July and 12th August, which means London and surrounding areas will be a nightmare.
Oh that is good, you will soon be able to meet up with us...xxx
A little update from us. We have now been here almost a month and loving it :) We live in an end-of-terrace house so we have our own backyard where Tedi can be as much as he wants! We have also found loooads of nice places to go out for a jog and our favourite place is definitely New Forest which is only a 20min drive away from our home.

Now I've been trying to look some shows which I would first visit without Tedi to just see how they go and maybe later I could show Tedi also here. Is anyone going to any shows in the South in the near future? I would like to meet UK sheepie-people and of course UK's sheepies! Hope we'll see some of you soon :)

New Forest is beautiful :)
Welcome to our side ot the water. I am in a small village in Kent fair way from Southampton. Hope you settle in ok.x
I dont show bloo and southampton is too far to travel from where we are, we stay up north generally :)

There are lots of people on here down south and london that are closer to you :) xx
Of course I'm having friends from Finland over next weekend so I won't be able to come to the OES Champ Show!! Damn :( Well, I'll just have to come to some other show then.
BlooBoo, it's a shame that you are so far away (or we are). But you'll never know where we end up :)
Glad to hear you are settled in!

The South Eastern are holding a champ show on 30th September 2012, in Kent, if thats any good?

Here are the details: http://www.thesoutheasternoesclub.co.uk/page5.html
Yay!
Thank you very much for the info :)

I'm going to visit Finland at the end of Sept but I'll be back on 29th so maybe I'll come to see some sheepies :) I guess I'm too tired to groom Tedi to show condition on Saturday but I could come just as a tourist. Can I take Tedi with me even though he isn't attending or what are rules here about "tourist dogs"?

Do you guys know any more oes specialties or other shows with class for oes this fall? :)
Theres an oes champ show in november in birmingham... but that may be a little too far for you...
That's not too far! :) We are used to drive hours to shows... :D Do you remember the date? And is there some website for that?
I found this one show in Yorkshire in October and I was thinking that maybe I should come there with Tedi. It's my birthday also so what would be better than spending your birthday surrounded with sheepies :)
Im part of the midland oes club so i get letters now and then.

Here are the contacts, and website. I think you have to be a member of the club to go though, im not sure though.
http://www.midlandoesclub.co.uk/contact.html

The championship show is on Sunday 25th November 2012 at Great Barr Leisure Centre, Aldridge Rd, Great Barr, Birmingham, B44 8NU.

You need an entry form, if you email them they will send you one im sure. I may go to this one as its only 20mins away from us :)
Ok, thank you very much :) Maybe we'll see there then! I'm so eager to see what shows are like in the UK, although I think that they don't really differ from ours.
We started Rally O with Tedi a couple weeks ago and it's been a lot of fun! I think the instructors here are more open-minded than in Finland because Tedi has all these sheepie manners like suddenly rolling in the grass in the middle of course... Everyone just laughs at him rather than looks at me like I'm a bad owner who doesn't control her dog :D That's why we chose Rally O instead of obedience training because I'm just not so patient that I could really try some winner class moves with him.

Tedi has also found some friends in the park, today he was playing with a miniature pinscher. We really like it here, I think that the dogs are in general more friendly and sociable than in Finland. I haven't seen any aggressive dog yet and hope we won't see any of those. We have had too many attacks mainly from german shepherds so it's nice to go for a jog without fearing that some crazy dog will come running and barking and I have to defend my little boy.
A sheepiefriend would be a jackpot but we'll see.. Maybe I should get Tedi a little brother :) I've been trying to look breeders from the internet just for fun but many of them don't seem to have websites? Maybe I'll meet them at the shows and can have a chat.
