I know many people use car harnesses, maybe some with the seat belt and some attached to clippy things (technical term ) in the car. I would love some recommendations for harnesses, especially ones that work with clippy things. Or harnesses that work with the seatbelt and how to safely modify their use for clippy things. With Sheepiepalooza coming up, it is time to start preparing for these things |

We're looking at getting one of those clips, where it attaches to the seat belt and clips to the harness. You can use those with their regular harnesses. We have to figure out something if we're coming to Sheepiepalooza, Bailey wants to stand on me and Eevee wants to help Jacob drive... I don't think that would work out too well (: |
I use a very short leash maybe 12' long. I looped it through the seatbelt, it is very tight and secure. Then when Howie hops into the car I just use the clasp on his walking harness (collar would work too). It takes seconds, and keeps him really to one side of the car. I just happen to have that short leash, and it was not being used, so I thought I'd give it a go..it works great. peg and howie |
This came up a little while ago. We have always used seatbelt harnesses with our dogs, but rarely attached to the vehicle seatbelt. For Benson, we have a Champion seatbelt harness system that includes a short tether with a heavy clip that goes to her harness and a carabiner-style clip you hook directly to the car (either the seatbelt or some other attachment point.) We don't have a back seat in the Jeep, so we rigged up this system for her: The quilt is for insulation, since the bare floor gets pretty hot over the axle. We cut "button-holes" in the quilt, and ran the strapping through 6 separate weld-points on the floor. It makes a strong restraint system, and holds the quilt down nicely on those windy top-down rides. It also gives her room to stand up and get her nose out the back and sides of the Jeep, as well as poking it in between us, but she cannot jump out (unless the tether - rated at 2,000 pounds of force - fails.) Here's a more recent picture. She's at the absolute limit of that tether - pulling as hard as she can to try to get to us. Normally, when we're in the car with her, she doesn't put her face farther up than our shoulders for a quick pat. Hope this gives you some ideas! |
