I'm in Bob Tales!

Special thanks to Ray Salmon and his wife Ann.

They were the OES rescue people on Vancouver Island who despite the distance and never having met me stepped up and initially paid for Gilligan to visit the vet when I contacted them about him being at the shelter.

The rest was history as others stepped up and helped him get his biopsy and paid for his medical treatments. Ray was the one that handled all the funds on behalf of OES rescue and writes articles for Bob Tales magazine.

Through the years I had Gilligan, I wrote to Ann, Ray and Grannie Annie of NEOESR and gave them updates of Gilligan and his other furried friends in my household.

Ray used my photos and emails to write aprox a 10 page article! Most touching of all he used the photo of Gilligan and Merlin on the front cover of the Spring Issue of Bob Tales.
It was the same photo that I used when posting news of Gilligan's passing.

You see beyond there Gilligan, that is heaven and that is where all good dogs go. You have nothing to fear.

Yes, we can upload PDFs.
Same way as uploading a pic.
Congratulations Marianne. Can we see the article?

I'm assuming Bob Tales is a sheepie magazine? How do you subscribe? Is it through that particular rescue organization?

Always need to know about anything sheepie.
Thanks for the nice comments everyone!

LVSL - I think it's a Canadian newsletter that goes out to OES members? I'm actually not sure but the others who have read it probably know more about it.

Most of you have probably already read what was written, as Ray took my emails or post from here which I copied and pasted when I wrote about Gilligan and his siblings. It was nice to see it all together and I was thrilled when he sent me a copy. I don't mind it being shown on here but wonder if that breaks any rules regarding publications from other sources? It's also lengthy and I wouldn't want to take up space on this valuable forum.

Mark that's awesome about Mady! I would love to read the article about Sheepiepalooza but that would probably make me jealous of all your folks who have had the opportunity of going. Some day! As that's on my bucket list!

That's true.

You deserve the praise, Marianne. :excited:
Wasn't the oes.org membership involved in the chipin at least?
OES.org was indeed involved in the chip in. We are away this weekend, spending the weekend with Amber to get grooming lessons. When we get back we will check with Ray to see if it is ok for us to put it up on the site. Bob Tales is sent to members of OESOCC, the Canadian sheepie club. Ray is the lovely soul who puts it together. Which reminds me, we need to start working on some submissions for him. The man does such a lovely job and we make it more difficult by not submitting things on time. Hmm, maybe we can do an article about Sheepiepalooza and how we met folks on OES.org and drove down to meet folks in person. I still can't believe we did that. Met folks online and then drove to see them. My mother warned me never to do such a thing!!!

Not only did you do it once but now you're doing it AGAIN! What WILL your mother think of you :twitch: :twitch: :twitch:
Hi Again,

Yes, indeed OES.org was involved in the chip-in! That's included! Ray and Ann who are the OES rescue people in my province although an Island and 2 hr ferry ride separates us - Ray took responsibility of all the monies and re-directed to the vet. Just so that everything was always accounted for as official. I was initially just an "agent" as originally I was just sprung him from the shelter and hold him until a rescue can take him on. He and Ann initially paid out of their own pocket for Gilligans first assesment (as the rescue only involves just him and Ann)
Then when it was discovered Gilligan needed the biopsy - that's when the wonderful members of OES.org arranged the chip-in. The rest was history, my other animals accepted him and due to his medical issues it was decided it was best if he stayed put. .

Grannie Annie contacted me and spoke to my vet several times as one of the members of NEOESR contacted her. (I'm not really sure of how everything came about and don't want to leave anyone out so apologies if I have).

Grannie Annie remembered me from 8 years earlier as she had called me regarding Panda and we spoke at length those many years ago. (I adopted Panda so he was never under any rescue category but it was through this forum I first heard about him.) Grannie Annie wanted to make sure I was safe.

Grannie Annie made personal arrangements with my vet and was very impressed with her. On an side note my wonderful vet just was nominated the president of the vet association of Canada!

So in a nutshell, Gilligan had many wonderful OES people helping him and while I previously said after a while I didn't consider him a foster - he really was all of ours.

NEOESR eventually picked up Gilligans ongoing medical cost after the chip in money was finished. This included Gilligans geri-panels and his med cost. Just several months before he passed I contacted Grannie Annie and thanked her for all she did on behalf of the NEOESR but now I no longer felt Gilligan was a "foster" as he was my boy and Kaj and I would now pay for his cost as there were many other needy dogs out there that could use help.

So hope that clears up any confusion and as I keep saying without that biopsy and OES.org, Gilligan whose initial diagnosis was oral cancer would have been euthanized and never given that second chance. It was because of you folks the biopsy was possible and found that it wasn't cancer and he could expect to live out his senior years with comfort.
