My name's Leslie and I'm considering get an OES, a breed of dog I've loved since a neighbor had one when I was little. This will be the first time I've ever bought a purebred dog though and I was wondering what are the types of questions people usually get asked by breeders when they start looking for a puppy? Thanks! |

This will be the first time I've ever bought a purebred dog though and I was wondering what are the types of questions people usually get asked by breeders when they start looking for a puppy? Thanks! Depends on the type of breeder. If the first and main question is: so how will you be paying for this, cash or check? probably not a breeder you want to waste any time on There is no set script, but the other type will ask you about your past dog experience, your life style (active, busy etc), why you're interested in the breed, do you have kids? are you planning on kids (I know, pretty personal question, but there's a reason) proposed living arrangements for the dog and so on. They'll also do a lot of listening. And talking. Feel free to ask questions if there's anything you don't understand. That's part of the learning process, may as well take advantage of it. Usually as a breeder you're a little concerned about selling a puppy to someone who has never lived with the breed before (the breed being a rude awakening for some - they are high maintenance) Do your homework (i.e. read the forum for a while and you'll get a pretty good idea of what living with an OES is like, health concerns, training and grooming challenges and so on) so you can talk intelligently about the trials and tribulations of raising one of these hairy monkeys. Depending on where you are in the world you may even want to show up at a local show (we can tell you how to find one), seek out a club meeting, if there's a club in your area - some times it's just easier face to face. It's not always convenient, and it doesn't necessarily mean you'll end up getting a puppy from the first breeder you meet, but you can learn a lot that way and get your hands on some OES in the process. Fingers crossed for you Kristine |
