If Kaj needs a sheepie fix (or a turtle fix, we have those too) tell him to come to Ottawa, only an hour and a half away and I can promise to send him home well loved by Mady, Virginia and Gracie. |

Hi Everyone! Thanks for all those sweet words - you guys are awesome! Just to give you a quick update as he proposed at the airport on his way to Montreal while I am here on the WestCoast 2500 miles away. It was something we had discussed but I always got cold feet. We met in Europe in 2001 and for the next 7 years he travelled from Holland to Canada to be with me, usually staying from 2 wks to 6 months. Then in 2008 he obtained a work visa and job in Canada and alas we were finally together and purchased a home together. I previously wrote that the company he was employed with closed it's doors and he had to accept a transfer or else would have to leave the country. Even if we proved common law he still would have to leave the country and apply for permanent residency outside of Canada (usually takes 18 months) with my sponsership before he could return. In retrospect, if we realized the company was shutting it's doors we would have made arrangements sooner but after 5 years he could have obtained his permanent residency. The easiest thing was to accept the transfer as the company arranged his work visa extended to Montreal and we would eventually be together again in the near future. I also previously wrote that he was offered a transfer to Paris which would have been great as I still have duel citizenship and he's a member of the EU but we would have only been allowed to bring in only 5 animals and we refused to leave any behind. Oh complications!!! Still he stood behind my decision not to move anywhere unless all the pets could come and not a single one was left behind and I knew then I should probably marry him. So when he proposed I said YES! So he's there and I'm here tying up loose ends before I take the crew of critters and drive across the country with them all. That may happen sometime this summer. The problem is my family is in Vancouver and his in Holland and we don't know anyone in Montreal. So we may just go to Justice of the Peace and then have parties with our family and friends the next time we see them. As for the ring ....well he had a nifty ring made in Paris back in 2003 which is a silver cat that I always wear and we planned on having a diamond collar placed on it when we married. I'm such a rebel! Of course I've worn the ring and never removed it that the ears have almost dissapeared and the ring appears to look now like an otter! LOL So at one point I'll have to have someone remake it. Sigh I've never married so this would have been the first time so I still would like to do something really different at one point in time. Stay tuned! PS Now that he's gone and I'm busy working and looking after all the pets I won't be on as much as in the past few weeks. Hopefully in the near future I can fly out and find a home so that the animals will have a place to go to when I move. More complications but doable. I really should write a book about my adventures - LOL |
Congratulations Marianne, he's a keeper. |
What a fun story, I hope you two can be together again soon! |
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! If you still feel good about each other after all this time then it is definately the next step. Animal lover would be a must for you girl! |
