What was he on when you got him from your breeder? How did he do on that? I can't tell from your post - was he on the BB and then suddenly doing poorly on it? He may have gotten into some bad water or something - Spring is notorious for dogs getting into stuff and getting gastric problems. My Son-I-L's dog just went through that, never found anything on the stool specs, and a course of antibiotics cleared her up nicely. Or it may be the food...you need to rule stuff out and start being a sleuth for some of this. |
he was on some cheap stuff when i got him. I could not get it where I love as I drove 6 hours to get him and it came from an elevator or something. He isnt around anything toxic. My other 2 dogs are just fine. He just has a sensitive stomach I think. |
Did the vet recommend a stool culture to check for coccidia and giaradia? http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm ... 02&aid=727 http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm ... 02&aid=739 They generally say that a food allergy will appear as skin issues... a food intolerance will present with stomach issues. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm ... 82&aid=143 Did the vet mention putting puppy on a home cooked diet until his system balances out? Say rice and beef/turkey? If you can get the pup balanced again, you can choose a different food and very gradually wean the puppy from home cooked to the new food... back to home cooked if symptoms again appear... then on to another brand/variety. Maybe ask the breeder what protein/carb they had your puppy on and find something matching/similar. Keep in touch with the vet if the diarrhea continues... pups can dehydrate and their little systems can get out of balance if diarrhea goes on for a long time. Hoping all will be well soon and you can focus on simply enjoying your pup. |
I might suggest getting some Slippery Elm capsules. They are just a goo that coats their tummy thus reducing sensitivity. Use this until things firm up and wean off. |
Is he still actively playing and doing all that wonderfully obnoxious cute puppy stuff? If so I might be inclined to consider it as-- operator error--ie feeding too much or in too few meals. Try the home cooking. I have used similar in the past and it really does help to get the gut back in synch. |
