Taking Bets, or, Raven Whines about the Weather Somemore

So, I'm taking bets here: who thinks breakup (spring) will come in time for me to do my first outdoor art fair???

My first outdoor show is on the first weekend of May, in downtown Anchorage. As of today (April 1st), there is still aprox. 4-6 feet of snow at my house, and around 3-4 feet (as near as I could tell) in town.

There have been some signs of coming spring, like temps in the 20F-30Fs and giant puddles around town, but Mother Nature's April Fools day joke was...you guessed it, a huge snowstorm   .

I had had the idea of documenting the oncoming spring with photos for you guys, and my livejournal blog followers, but, here's the problem:

December:

January:

March:

April:

Yeah..not too exciting :? There is noticeably less snow in that last pic, but keep in mind that the 2' or so of fence you see in it is actually 6' tall, and the dogs have packed it down all winter 8O . We have a ways to go, before we see any actual bare ground!

Hmmm, not so sure if this one will happen. I'm glad it's in Anchorage, not Fairbanks!!! ;)

I'm still saying you could have shared some of that snow with us - we BOTH would have been happy!
Wow! That's a lot of snow!

Fairbanks is actually in better shape. They have temps in the 40Fs already, the lucky dogs. People there are already running around in shorts

I'm sorry your season was such a dud :( The mushers, skiers, snow machine enthusiasts etc were all very happy up here this year. My only winter sport this year was olympic-level snow shoveling  .
Gorgeous pictures. I miss the snow already here in Ottawa. It is shocking how quickly it all melts and goes away.
After a cold patch we've just had an Indian summer here but it's forcast to get cold again after Easter, so I reckon you'll get your spring weather in the week after easter weekend. I don't know how long it takes to melt that much snow though so I cant' tell when you'll get bare ground.
If April brings showers, you may be out of your snow...of course you may have to take a boat. That is alot of snow.
It'll melt, it'll melt!

If it's melting in Fairbanks where the snow was interlaced with 40 and 50 gegrees below zero temperatures, it has to melt in Anchorage too. It just has to.

C'mon, keep saying it with me: It just has to!!

Good LUUUUUUuuuuuuuuck...
:twitch: Please, tell me that you're making us all april "fools"!!!!!!

Extreme warm up and your puddles will be lakes or worse. Imagine you are facing flood danger anyway......meaning the city proper. I see Anchorage summer attire: Wellies and Mosquito netting, very fashionable. Hope the show site is slightly sloped, south facing.

Wellies and mosquito netting are *always* fashionable in Anchorage!

My show (if you remember your Anchorage geography well enough) is in the Ship Creek area, down near the railroad, and pretty close to the ocean 8O .

The big fear of coarse is that the snow will melt TOO fast, with the ground still frozen and unable to absorb it. We are on a mountain, so no flood worries for us, but Anchorage is going to be a MESS. Maybe I should be looking into a nice gondola kind of arraignment for selling my work this year? :lmt:
Wow...yay? :?

I swear, yesterday morning when I woke up, I could hear the low murmur of every person in the Anchorage/Matsu area saying in unison: "Oh you have GOT to be kidding me!!!???"

Scott's convinced its all HIS fault, because he foolishly unlocked the hubs (for 4 wheel drive) on the truck  In spite of there still being tons of snow everywhere, the roads HAD been relatively clear and dry. Now, not so much .
