What is the past tense for "panic"? Is it "Panicked"?

What is the past tense for "panic"? Is it "Panicked"? "Panic'd"? "Paniced"?
What is the rule for a verb ending in C?
There has to be a rule!

I know!! The past tense of 'Panic' is 'Worried'!!
I would put the k in, but then again, I'm the person who spells cancelled with two Ls, provoking one of the longest threads on this board.
According to Wiktionary, it's panicked - http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/panic and scroll down to the Verb section.

"Panicked" is correct. As is the verb "picnicked" as past tense for "picnic", so I am guessing that this is one of our quirky English grammar rules.

How would you pronouce "paniced?" Pan-iced? Pani-ced? Pan-i-ced? Grateful the answer was panicked.
