the only thing that has ever happened there is a border could tried to "herd" him and he stuck to me like glue until he left. |

Yes, I think it's safe to say he was protecting his territory. When I used to do Pet Talks (How to prevent being bit by a dog) for the Humane Society that is one of the things I'd warn kids about - Never reach through a fence or through a car window to pet a dog. They can be the sweetest dogs in neutral territory but can be raving lunatics protecting their home turf (you boy I suspect views the car as home turf too). Two years old is often said is when they come into their own...they have now reached adulthood and may display behaviors that were not apparent before. Just be careful that you don't leave him in the car with the window a crack open - allowing possible fingers to reach in and pet him as you may be held responsible and he would pay the price possibly (depending on the laws in your area). It could also be he "sensed" something about those two people that perhaps warned him or of your danger? Kinda like spidey senses? There are rare times when my boys have responded when I was in trouble or I could be way off base here and it could have been two sweet old people that walked by your car. Anyone else want to pipe up and perhaps offer some further advice or thoughts? Marianne |
my 9 year old lab is very protective IN the car. Anybody comes near it she growls and barks and goes nuts. She sees the same person outside of the car and shes all wags and kisses. |
