Bang on day

Sorry to go on but I got a bit fed up about issues on dogs. Just read an artical about a sheepdog that had been bred to the limit. The dog was from Wales again ( Nothing against the Welsh) but they found the poor bitch in Hong Kong starving on the streets. How the hell do you get a dog from   Wales & ship it off to Hong Kong . The only thing I can think off is that they put a load of them in a container.  . Another good point is how do they get rid of all the unwated dogs

I sometimes avoid heartwrenching stories as it wounds my soul too much. I don't close my eyes to the problems either, but I sometimes feel humanity is horrible if I keep reading stories of abuse. I read a lot of ones that have happy endings to keep my feelings of people are wonderful perspective. I just know I will never stop trying to help one at a time when I can because the faces of past ones haunt me who never had a chance.

The story you mentioned (which I'm not familiar with) blows me away...I don't get it either. Who would fly a dog from one country to another in order to further abuse it? Or perhaps the original rescuer saved the dog and sadly didn't research a new owner?
ANIMAL welfare campaigners have vowed to fight on after controversial plans to expand a puppy farm at Llanllwni — claimed to be the largest in Wales — were approved last week.

Farmer Dylan Jones's retrospective planning application for Beili Bedw Farm, near Llanllwni, has attracted 769 objections from the public, with many raising ethical and practical concerns such as animal welfare and a lack of parking.

Nearly 2,700 signatures were also collected on an online petition website, 'Say no to puppy farm in Carmarthenshire Wales'.

When planners met last week after a site visit, they were also greeted by more than 40 placard- waving protesters on the steps of County Hall calling for the application to be turned down.

The applicant retrospectively applied to change the use on an existing agricultural shed into dog breeding kennels.

The shed has already been used for that purpose.

The working farm, which also keeps more than 1,000 sheep, has a licence from Carmarthenshire Council to keep 196 dogs.

Planning permission to run kennels at the farm was initially granted back in 1994, at the time for nine dogs.

Speaking to planners on behalf of the protesters, David Grimsell of Ciliau Aeron said: "Many dogs in pounds are currently being euthanised, and the primary driver is the over-breeding of dogs."

He said that one-and-a-half staff looking after 196 dogs was "totally inadequate".

Mr Grimsell put profits made by the farm at between £100,000 and £200,000 a year, describing it as "minimum input for maximum financial output".

He added: "This isn't an acceptable development as far as the majority are concerned."

Mr Jones's agent Owen Banks said the breeding business was a justified farm diversification. The agent said the application was retrospective as Mr Jones had naively believed that a consent for the shed would include its use for the puppy farm.

Local councillor Hazel Evans said: "It's a credit to this young person that he has invested back into his business, it certainly shows the way forward for other dog breeders."

She said that few of the objections related to planning policy and there had been no complaints from local residents.

The application was passed with two abstaining. At that point a protester shouted from the gallery: "Shame on you; Carmarthenshire will be known as the county of puppy farms."

Speaking after the meeting, one of the protesters, Linda Goodman from Pencader, said: "This battle is over but the fight will go on, the war isn't over by a long stretch.

"Puppy farming isn't something that's unique to Wales but Wales happens to be the hub. Carmarthenshire has more puppy farms than any other part of Wales.

"This will be the largest puppy facility in Wales now."
An undercover investigation has revealed appalling conditions at puppy breeding farms that supply one of the UK's biggest pet shops.

Secret filming showed dogs kept in small, dark pens with no access to outside runs.

Some of the animals clearly had behavioural problems from being kept in a confined space.

Some circled on the spot, others cowered in the corner of their cells.

Looking at the footage, TV vet Marc Abraham described the animals' living conditions as the worst he had ever seen in the UK.

"There is no care for these dogs whatsoever, apart from keeping them alive to breed more puppies. It is sick," he said.

Adele Lewis bought a West Highland Terrier for her 10-year-old son Robert from the store.

She said Jaka always seemed to be a depressed dog and four months after the family bought her, she was suddenly taken ill and had to be put down.

Vets told Mrs Lewis the dog had a defect from birth caused by its mother being over-bred.

The dog originally came from one of the farms filmed by Sky News.

When shown the footage, Mrs Lewis said: "It's shocking but at least now I know where he came from and why this happened."

In a statement Dogs4Us said: "All the puppies we purchase are from registered breeders who are also licensed by the local authority, who also carry out inspections of their premises."

Sky News passed the footage to Carmarthenshire Council.

After expressing concern, the authority asked the farms to make some changes but allowed them all to keep their licences.
