I am hoping to find someone here who may know who I am looking for. We got our current dog from a breeder in Pennsylvania... Newport, PA I beleive. Somehow we have misplaced all of the paperwork we received when we got our puppy. I would love to be able to contact this breeder again but cannot find their information on-line anywhere. I am hoping that someone here may have also purchased from them. I want to see if they are still breeding with the possibility of getting another puppy! This was an amish breeder with a great set-up for the puppies! I think it may have been a one time deal, but hopefully that is not the case. Any information would be great! Thanks a lot |

Try this link, http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamerica.org There is a page here with breeder referals. Not to be disrespectful but especially in my area there are LOTS of puppy mills. I know you may be happy with a dog you got there, but you may want to learn something about these "breeders" before making that jump again. The best advice I can give you is to start with the above link. It is a great starting point. My first OES's breeder is from this area, and I wouldn't go back there for all the tea in China. Good luck. Shellie |
I also am from near Lancaster and would be very hesitant to buy a puppy from a breeder there .It is nationally known as puppy mill area there has been a lot recently on the news. |
I appreciate your feedback. Being from the area I was/am also aware of the puppy mill issue, which is why we made that our number 1 priority to look into when we got there. We were able to look around the breeder's property as well as meet the mother of our dog. That was our main concern on the way to the house to make sure that it was not a puppy mill. I am 100% certain that it is not a puppy mill. Unfortunately I think they may have just been 1 time breeders. |
Here's a simple rule - get a puppy from someone off the above breeder list or someone that a person on that list recommends. Someone on that list will not push you to a breeder with a bad rep; their neck is on the line at that point to some degree. Folks on that list know who all the good breeders are and most likely will know who has pups. That's what we did and we're OH-SO-GREATFUL we did. We got a great pup from a great person who knows her stuff. And on top of that, we got set up with a great mentor who has a connection with our pup, (co-owner of direct blood lines of parents) so she has a stake in how well we do. She wants us to do well and is working with us to ensure we do. You won't get this from a mill or a BYB. Period. Listen to the veteran members as they too know their stuff. Vance |
Well I was just looking to see if anyone knew of this breeder. I don't need the criticism and who to go to and who not to go to. Our dog did not come from a puppy mill, I am certain of this. So if anyone does know of this breeder I look forward to hearing from you. If you don't know of the breeder and are just looking to tell me what you assume to know and that this was a bad breeder, your wasting your time telling me. |

Or are you just looking for someone to tell you something good about this particular breeder. It sounds like you already have the dog, is that why you said it's a "waste of time telling you?". These people know their stuff, and you asked a question. They answered. I'm sorry you may not like the answers they gave you. Asking for someones experience will get you exactly that - their experience. Take it, leave it, whatever. |
no, no, no. I am just trying to find out if anyone has any contact information for this person. That's it, not wether people think he is a puppy mill, good breeder, etc. I am just looking for his contact information in case we decide to go ahead and get another puppy. i never asked for experience, opinions, or any of that. This has nothing to do with the dog that we currently have. |
Oh nuts, you know what? Strike all that crapola. I totally got this mixed up with the one post about a new puppy from some place. DUHHHHH. |
I just did a very basic Google search for 'Sheep Dog Breeders in Newport, PA' and found about a dozen sites all referencing a place with the same OES pups for sale. They all have the same brick wall behind them and blanket under them, so it's safe to believe they're all from the same place. Unless Newport is a big city, this is probably who you're looking for. And if it is, it probably isn't a puppy mill. But, with the price of these pups being a mere $500 each, I wouldn't rule out calling them a back yard breeder; which is as bad as a mill. Vance |
Thanks for looking into it Vance. It doesn't look like that is the same place though. That place has an actual website - with tons of different breeds. I am going to call the phone number though and see what the place is. The breeder I am looking for was right out of his house, where this looks like an actualy store/mill/or something. When we found him before the phone number was right to his house, not an outside store or anything like that. Not that it means anything, but the picture he had posted when we found him, all the dogs were in a basket. Again, thanks for helping! |
Well, either way, and I'm sure you're getting tired of hearing this, there are no breeders on the OESCA breeder list from Newport, PA. I was hoping to at least see that... Vance |
yea, I get that. Happy with our dog either way! We are not planning on getting another one anytime soon I was just searching around! Thanks though |
And being happy with your dog really is all that matters. Our second Sheepie was a rescue. We have no idea who the breeder was. She's healthy and happy and a joy nearly every second of the day. We've had her for almost three years and plan on pursuing a long and happy career as a therapy dog as we have no papers so we can't show her. Her personality fits the therapy dog to the letter, so that's where she's headed. Vance |
Very nice! A therapy dog would be great, something we talked about. But, our dog enjoys giving kisses to much, so I don't think she would be a good fit!!!! We didn't get our dog to show, so that isn't an issue for us. We got her because we liked the breed, and then obviously liked her! |
You can train your dog with regards to the kisses thing. Let that be the reward AFTER doing therapy. I really think that Sheepies make the best therapy dogs as they're among the most cuddly and everyone HAS to touch. Look up TDI - Therapy Dogs International, http://www.tdi-dog.org/ . There are other on here who are members and I'm sure they'd answer questions as they have for me. Vance |
If you love the breed then you want someone who is breeding to standards, not an Amish farm. They do not show their dogs. I can tell you love OES, so I'm sure you want the healthiest dog you can find. That is why the breeder referal list was suggested. If I live here and haven't heard good things about them, they are likely a byb, or as you said it was a one time deal. That is all I was trying to help you avoid. Shellie |
I think I may know your breeder. Our Bailee is from a small Back Yard Breeder in Newport PA. Their name is Omar and Linda Stoltzfus and before everyone else jumps up and down claiming these are the same people that have been shut down they are NOT. Most people don't realize Stolzfus is as common a name to the Amish as Smith or Jones is to the non-Amish world. Our Bailee is the most highly socialized dog we have ever had. His temperament is outstanding, He is 3 and a half years old and so far we have had him to the Vet ONCE for any issue other than normal vaccines. A lot of people here seem to feel you can't possibly get a good dog from one of those Back Yard Breeders. I obviously disagree with that. If you want their phone number and address PM me and I will be happy to give them to you and answer any other questions you may have. We, like you are 100% positive their place is not or at least at the time we purchased Bailee was not a Puppy Mill. There pups were kept in a Rancher type house with both parents present. |
Thanks baileesdad.... that's the same place! |
I would contact a breeder from the UK as alot of them go to the US to breed there bitches. |
