He said before he started doing thyroid blood work, he wanted to take a look at him and get the first blood work done. Looking at him he didn't think that would be the issue. He was right. So I will just keep my eye on him. Get another blood work in a year. This could be his normal. I asked about ticks where I moved I see deer all the time. He doesn't like the Lyme vaccine more issues than not. He didn't recommend the drops you put on the back either. Just a good through going over and pulling them off. YEAH! I love my vet he said I am not going to spend your money unless we have to and his track record shows me this. |

I must have missed posts, what were your concerns leading to the bloodwork? |
Everything was fine on his first blood work except his alkaline phosphates which were so low they didn't show up on the blood work. The vet wasn't too worried if it was the other way high then it could be liver problems. There really isn't any thing on the internet about low alkaline phosphates. So I was told to wait a few months and come back in and try again. They are reading now not square down the middle but the are reading. He was going to do a thyroid test if it was the same but they are fine. Plus he otherwise he is super healthy looking and acting. I told him he is lazy in the mornings he laughed so I am not worried Poor Langley is usually good about getting needles. But I had a bad feeling the lady was holding him to tight and he stiffened. I was about to say something and as just before I did he freaked out. We tried again and I held him which was barely I just kept telling what a good boy he is. He just wanted his MaMa to be near, then he is fine. |
oh ok glad all his well.... maybe something missing in his diet? I can't find anything about low levels, but high levels don't sound good http://ahdc.vet.cornell.edu/clinpath/mo ... lkphos.htm |
Also here http://www.vet.uga.edu/vpp/clerk/raymond/index.php there is a statement that says "Only increases in serum ALP measurements are helpful clinically. There are no significant causes of decreased ALP." |
Yeah it is a weird one usually elevated is what happens not decreased. But the fact it has risen I feel better. I did change the diet a little since the first blood work, I have changed my raw food distributor. They get a meaty bone every other day now. I have been giving them more oatmeal as well which has... Phosphorus and Selenium, and a very good source of Manganese. |
Sending Langley a belly rub from me. I'm so glad his levels now are appearing in the normal range - great news for you and Langley! Your vet does sound very responsible and has you and your boy in your best interest. Marianne |
