So strange...

We have moved into the new place from deep in the woods to into town. Not bad, except for bark spit covered windows. Lately I have been letting Laika stay outside I don't have a fence yet so I tie her out. Well she has shown me I can trust her. To put it into context if anything goes by the house while she is inside she will bark her fool head off. When she is outside nothing! Cars nothing. Today a man walked by, I thought oh boy here we go. She didn't even stand up. WOW! My sister drove into the drive way nothing! WOW! So weird that she doesn't go crazy outside but does inside. Has anyone else come across this behaviour?

Oh and to show how much Langley loves his sleep at night if she hears something and goes barking her head off. He doesn't even budge! Now that is so weird! They are so strange!

All of mine go bonkers inside until they get out and investigate. Reaction outside varies from, "Oh that......." or "OMG I've got to run it off/call Mommy/etc"

Age has quieted things down. My "gate bells" vs "door bell" may not even bother barking if someone comes to the gate they know. They bark guests through the gate but when the car door opens, they go, sniff and walk off if they approve. Garbage trucks still deserve a bark and run down the fence......after all, they just stole our garbage....at least to the dogs' minds.

Bark spit on door......yeah, I don't try to keep it off.......just clean it once in awhile.
Too funny about the garbage truck cause it is true....
Sheepieboss - That was funny!!! I can see dogs thinking that way..."hey there may be good stuff in there!" LOL

As for Langley and Laika barking inside...well maybe that's your furkids "quirk". However, I think it's their way of giving the "hue and cry" to you pack leader..."Mom, come check it out...something is outside you should perhaps investigate!" While outside they see what the object is and there is no need to investigate as they see for themselves that all is well. When my previous girl, Shaggy did that I never said be quiet, I'd look out the window, check out the source of her barking and as if to satisfy her that all was well...she'd stopped barking.
One night my ex became frustrated at her barking and was yelling for her to "shut up". (you can see why he's my ex...ha ha!) I looked out and saw my neighbors home being broken into. Ahhh poetic justice!

Asia is the one that "alerts" us to what is going on outside. It can be as simple as a leaf blowing or a dog being walked by the house. We live out in the country, so not a lot of activity on a daily basis.

I have a system I use to see if I will investigate the barking. If all 3 are barking, I go and check. Violet doesn't bark about "outdoor" things very often, so if she gets into the mix, I go check. Asia also will bark and come and "talk to me" (I can't imitate the shound she makes) but she will look right at me and China will also get up so we all go and check.

I'm just happy anyone that goes by our house knows I have dogs.:)

You're so smart! :clappurple: Never thought about it like that. Yesterday I tried putting Langley outside for a bit. Soon as he saw something he barked. This is my non-barker. But I think he is a lot more of a baby than Laika. He rather be in with his Mama.
