I have the perfect candidate, too. I present the mess: Would it be possible to turn that into this? (Sam's Bloo) |
|
Can I second that!! I know I need help in removing the undercoat. Mark, I didn't want to say anything, my own dogs are a mess, but Zeke needs a little help there. Those bangs drive me NUTS! |
If it happens, I'm in! Benson will be just shy of a year old, and I'll need whatever advice I can get! (I might even volunteer her for a shave-down session - we can all take turns! ) |
Nita did a great demonstration a couple of years ago at Sheepiepalooza--I need more! I am all for it-I would attend- |
Oh please, please!! I would love to be included. |
This will be the 5th Sheepiepalooza AND we have done a grooming seminar at the first three Sheepiepaloozas. There are a few problems with this 1) Shortage of volunteers for Sheepiepalooza - despite appearances of looking like we have a plethora of people here in St. Louis we are a very small group and all have things keeping us busy in addition to the stuff we are handling for the event. 2) In the past, people were either dissapointed with the grooming presentation or the grooming presentation wasn't well attended. Perhaps this was because there was other stuff going on at the same time. 3) We have a full schedule already. I keep trying to build in break times. I find that the attendees prefer it. And I personally can't fit it in to my schedule - I am trying to figure out how to not end up as worn out as last year so I can enjoy visiting with people. The only thing I can suggesst to you is perhaps you can find someone with the knowledge to cover it at the hotel during the break on Sunday afternoon (before the dinner). That way those who aren't too tired can attend since it is right there at the hotel |
Pam, I'm with you on the bangs. I HATE them. I don't know why she likes them. I was serious about the grooming session. Zeke's a mess. I'll just have to get the ex's approval to cut him. |
Sounds good to me....and those bangs!! That's why I grow my dog's out, I just hate that look (on humans too ) I can bring some trimming stuff with I can demo grooming on mine (the line grooming/brushing) but would need other volunteer dogs for the actual major trimming projects.....darn show dogs! (Even Chewie again, as the current plan is for granddaughter Bre to show him in Jrs at Nationals in September...so hair is growing here). |
I think my ex takes Zeke to the groomer and asks for the Moe Howard. |

I totally agree with Judi. During the actual event was a bit hectic too try to hold this although we did have quite a bit of interest. It was around 120 degrees in the shade that day and wasn't very comfortable for anyone. Several people wanted feet, bangs or butts trimmed on their own dogs, which may take more than a few minutes during a demonstration. If several of us with sharp shears could help others with a few tricks back at the hotel in the evening (between beers) that would be the best idea yet. I'm in! (I personally rarely drink a beer so don't worry) |
I don't think my two will long enough hair to do anything! They are growing out a shave... Which I did not request! Mine can be a demonstration on "this is what you don't do." St Louis did an awesome job last year. It is a lot of work for them. I got tired. I cannot imagine how Judy and Val kept going and going. I needed some down time as well as my furkids. Can't wait to see everyone! |
Maggie McGee IV wrote: (I personally rarely drink a beer so don't worry) Nita, Did you see Zeke in the above pic? Looks like someone drank a CASE before trimming him. I'm sure you can do WAY better on a 6-pack than most people could do sober. |
I could use some advice on legs and her---personal area. She loves to be brushed but the hair on the legs seem thicker and I guess my brush doesnt get through it all. And her personal area, well it make me nervous to trim that area and so she gets tangles and licks it alot resulting in brown hair. Im just scared Im going to cut her. Mark At least your ex lets you see him. My nephew (yes the one with the girlfriend who cheated) hasnt been able to see the 2 schnauzers they shared since they broke up. I think he misses them more than her. |

Can't wait tobsee everyone! Carol/ Nita~~~THANK YOU!!! Anyone who has taken charge of the various events ~~Sheepiefest/ Sheepin, Nationals etc. really know what goes into planning and executing a successful, fun weekend. The details like printing directions, calling for missed information, setting up all the venues, reserving Gian Tonys, making sure everyone is comfortable, being there to resolve any problems quickly (and quietly ) so no one knows there are glitches.... ~~to name a few. Here are a couple of examples of what happened behind the scenes from Sheepiepalooza 2011 which not many people were aware of due to Judi's great detail skills. Last year, there was a problem with the Friday evening venue. The original plan was to meet at the dog park and then go to dinner. I went out to the hotel with some sweet treats (2 legged) to wait for everyone to arrive. Late afternoon began to get cloudy so Judi and I made a split second to decison to go to eat first and then go to the dog park~~ We had my daughter go down to Soulard to try to find a outdoor restaurant that could seat all of us. After finally finding a place, I called Judi and she had to text/call the people who were late in arriving and let them know where we would be. When Judi showed up at the restaurant, she was still trying to contact people. If Judi didn't make all the calls, most of the people would have missed a very relaxing kick off to Sheepiepalooza. Afterward, we went to the dog park and then decided to go for some frozen custard, another one of Judi's great ideas. On Saturday, we went to the Dog Museum and some of you decided to go on the hike with Judi~~ even though there were late comers, and it pushed our schedule back, Judi tweeked the original plans so everything was back on track. Our group takes great pains to make sure the weekend is interesting ,fun, we like to show our wonder dog friendly city to newbies, BUT we also try to schedule 'down time' for both our furkids and their 'parents'. This delicate balance is very exact and fragile~~~ I am sure everyone who has attended our weekend will agree that, just when you think, 'I have to get off my feet'...Or "my poor pup is hot and tired and needs a break"....voila~~~~ it is time to go back to the motel for some down time. THIS is why we have a very successful event....THIS is why you all want to come back.... Throwing something like this thread out to everyone, without PMing Judi, or one of us, causes chaos that could have been avoided. There are reasons why we decided not to repeat a grooming demo. There are reasons why it didn't work the last 2/3 times we tried doing it. If you would like the answer to these questions, please PM me and I will more than happy to explain it.... for now ...I will be ending this post~~ I hope I didn't say too much~~~I hope I didn't get anyone angry or stirred the pot~~~ But I really felt obligated to let you know why our reaction to this is less than enthusiatic. |
Sorry I ruffled feathers. My post was meant as a half joke. I just figured if one of the expert groomers could have given me some tips, I would have taken them and tried to trim Zeke up myself. And then I figured if anybody wanted to watch me or even try on Zeke, we couldn't possibly make him look worse than he currently does. That's all. |
Mark My partner Kathy is a mobile groomer, she can take give you some tips i you want during the picnic |
Hopadogmom wrote: Mark My partner Kathy is a mobile groomer, she can take give you some tips i you want during the picnic Thanks Monica. I'll need to touch base with my ex. She may not want him groomed at all. |
Mark, Monica said "tips". I don't think anyone has actually received a free grooming before, but you could be a first if you are persistant enough. Half joking. |
Monica & Mark, If this does happen I would love to sit in There has to be a better way than what we are doing, groomers always make it seem so easy! I've yet to get the boys as fluffy as after a groom (of course, that's why they make the big bucks) |

I've yet to get the boys as fluffy as after a groom (of course, that's why they make the big bucks) The key to the fluffiness is in the drying. The more powerful the dryer and the more thoroughly the dog is dried, the fuller and fluffier the coat will look, especially if you brush out the coat during the whole ordeal. I think the same thing is true with using a brush as a person blow dries their own hair but I'm not very capable with that, either. |
Nita, I learned that trick with Brick. If his fur is long, it gets real fluffy when I blow dry and brush him. If I just towel dry him, the fur stays in tendrils and lays down on his body. |
