I've reached out to Chicagoland, Wisconsin, and Midwest... but if anyone has other OES rescue connections please do forward to them. I will pay to have a trainer assess her if anyone out of area is interested. I can intake her through my rescue and transfer her to any other rescue as well (you have to be a rescue partner to pull from this shelter). Help. |

oh the poor baby!!! If there's anything I can do Heather please let me know!!! |
Poor little thing is scared. She doesn't know what she did wrong to wind up there. Have you heard back from Midwest? I am a volunteer with them as well here in Minnesota. Nancy G |
Sad. Wet face due to stress maybe. Did the owner share info as to why she was surrendered? |
I'm paying for a trainer to go out and assess her asap. They don't do real assessments at the shelter, so this will tell us a lot more. If she does well, I'll find a place for her (either with Chicagoland, Midwest, or my own rescue). If she does poorly, I will request that they euthanize her so she doesn't have to suffer. Will keep everyone updated. |
Oh poor girl! Hope she does well with the trainer. |
Heather, keep us posted. Hopefully things will go well. Any info on her would be helpful, why surrendered, good with other dogs etc. |
And look who showed up at the shelter today.... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =1&theater I'm going to have an ulcer before I'm 30. |
Oooooh my. Passing the Pepcid... |
What a beautiful Newfie! Arggggg wish I could help. |
I just spoke with our trainer who is with her right now... here is what he has to say: -Was initially growly in her kennel, but he was able to get her out with a slip lead -She was pully on the leash, walked by dogs and people without showing any aggression or interest -They then went to an auditorium where she was visibly very nervous and shut down -She warmed up a bit and started seeking out attention -They were petting her and giving her physical attention which she enjoyed -They attempted to touch her paws, and she gave a few warning snaps and got up and walked away -They said she shows good calming signals, which I'm not sure exactly what that means haha. -She is very matted -She is likely housebroken because she urinated for a long time right after being taken out of her kennel He recommended an experienced foster home, definitely no children, willing to work with her on desensitization with the paws issue. He also said that because she was very nervous it was not feasible to get an accurate read on her, but based on his assessment he thinks giving it a try in an experienced and calm foster home would be good. |
The newfie is in awful shape. I'm in touch with the local Newf rescue and they are planning on intaking him, and if they cannot my rescue will. |
Thanks for the update, Heather. Sounds like things will be looking up for the Newf. Are any rescues considering the OES girl? You all are such amazing people! Thanks for helping these pups! |
Met a foster from Midwest OES Rescue there today and Abby is safe. |
I also met a foster for Newfie rescue there and the newf is safe too, though he is not in good shape health wise. |
That's great news! |
Okay, I can breathe again now...I'm so happy Abby is safe. You do amazing work Heather - thank you!!! |
Thank Midwest OES rescue, they have consistently come through for purebred and mixed Sheepdogs in need here in Chicago when other rescue have been unable. Truly inspirational when breed specific rescues do their job so well! |
I'm glad to hear both of them are out and into foster homes |
Yay! Great news for both of them! |
Yes, Nancy H did a great job finding a foster for Abbey and thanks Heather for getting her to her foster in Milwaukee |
Yeah to Midwest OES rescue for all you do! |
Old thread, I know. But I was wondering if anyone knows who Stella here is fostered with? I saw her on Petfinder again last night (I should be banned from Perfinder!) and would be interested in talking to whomever she is fostered by. Also, does anyone know if Midwest OES rescue does trial periods? |

Also, does anyone know if Midwest OES rescue does trial periods? Stella is currently on medical hold for kennel cough but please feel free to submit an adoption application. This is the first step for anyone interested in adopting any dog. Just express your interest in Stella specifically on the application. Please feel free to contact us after you've completed our Adoption Application. Nancy, our Minnesota Placement Director, can answer any questions about Stella.
