Lovely, lovely! I keep hoping.......just not there. |
Looking really good! While I loved your short cut last year, I know you want some length.... |

I'd kill to have thick hair like that again!!!!!!! You look amazing!! |
I love your gray hair! I am just a little gray and plan on letting it grow out when the time comes. My hairstylist says 'no way'. She is wrong! And now seeing your hair I am sold. Good for you. peg |

What a beautiful healthy look!! Very attractive length as well. Good choice |
Thanks! Ha I do look like an OES! When it gets in my eyes, I feel like putting a topknot in my hair! |
So catch me up, Carol. Sorry for being behind and absent, but when did you decide to "go grey" and what make you go for it? I've been having this conversation with friends for the past year. At what age do you decide enough is enough and stop coloring? I don't want to look old before my time, but neither do I want to be one of those 80 year old women with jet black hair. So, please, if you don't mind, share your story. BTW, you look fantastic!! |
You look absolutely stunning!!!!! :cheer The color is gorgeous, what I call silver blond. When I decide to stop putting my roots back to their 'natural' color , I will probably go to a salon for lots of 'low lites'. But you look great!!! |
Thanks! Tammy. It took a year for me to make the decision. This January I turned 55 and have been coloring my hair for 25 years! Lots of time and money gone! I stopped coloring a year ago. When I was coloring, I went to the salon very three weeks and after a week my roots showed. I had to put a color stick over them for two weeks.! Plus I never liked the colors they used on me. I had long hair. So a year ago, I had it cut to about chin length, added lots of highlights. It looked awful. Then had another cut shorter. It grew and the roots were not so noticeable. Then I hated the brassiness of the colored hair so cut it extremely short. It is a process and there are many ways to do it. I have been on another forum called " going grey and looking great" for a year. Lots of support. The site was just shut down but we have another forum. I forget what it is called. We are also in Facebook under going grey looking great. Check out the photos. Everyone looks younger with the silver/white/grey/platinum etc hair. No one lady regrets going natural. Some of the group are in their twenties! Plus I saved a lot of money and time. My hair is thicker and healthier and now. I have never regretted it.... Well I did not like the short hair. chemicals on my head. |
Arggggg I can't correct the prior post. I meant I enjoy not having the chemicals on my head anymore. |
Wow, you look terrific and that really works for you. Many I've seen, male and female that have chosen to go natural it tends to make them look much much older. Not you though, you could be poster child for that decision. I agree, it's a pain and expensive to color and I never really care for the colors either although I've tried different salons but the quality of the hair color doesn't seem to be very good. |
I was completely white haired by the time I was 25. Damn genetics, it is not fair. So I go every four weeks, spend a fortune, and hate every minute that I spend at the salon. I would love to just go grey but a certain husband, whose MOM doesn't have a single grey hair, doesn't want me to go grey. The money I spend on hair could pay for us to go to Florida and visit you, Carol! |

I made the decision to stop coloring almost 2 years ago. I was having to color every three weeks, could no longer afford salon color, the box stuff was trashing my hair...it was dry and brittle. So the last time I colored I had it done professionally and had lots of highlights and lowlights put in, had it cut chin length and then just let it go....I, too, followed the "going grey looks great" website and got lots of support. My hair is now solid silver, healthy, has more volume and I get so many compliments on it! Maybe someday I'll get brave enough to post a picture.....lol. But I'm so incredibly happy I did it! |
Hi Mary. Wow a silver sister from gglg! Would love the see your photo! Remember on the site how amazing all the women look in their graduation photos. I have made many friends from the site and we get together at times. One of the ladies is 34 and looks so young and beautiful. Kim, I read david's post and laughed. I bet you would look greyt! At first Ron was not sure but now he loves it! Looking old with grey hair is just propaganda fed to us. I fell for it for years. It was marketing. Now silver is in yay! I look around and see more and more women letting their hair go natural. It is a personal decision and difficult to transition but oh so worth it! |
Kim, oh I would love for all of you to visit us! Stop coloring! Hahahaha. Show David photos of women who look amazing in grey hair. There are lots of photos on the web and look on Facebook at " going grey looking great" Wow if you are all white, that would be beautiful! I wish I had more white, but it will come. |
Thats a really pretty shade of grey. There is nothing wrong with going grey... Love your hair suits you really well...and yes oes lookalike winner! |
I also did it a year ago...LOVE it..mine looks like it did when I use to frost it in my 30s. Wish I had known about support group as you do question whether it's a good thing when it's half and half...I used the nonpermanent stuff every 20 days to help smooth the transition. |
Thanks for sharing your story! Nice to hear from all of you have decided to go grey & love it. I think it's great that so many people are going "natural". As I said, I've been thinking about it for a while now - just wondering when the right time is to do it. I've got a stylist who is a wizard with color and my hair is incredibly shiny & healthy. Its not that I'm unhappy with the color, I just know it won't look natural forever and I'm wondering how to phase in the grey. I told my family when I turn 50 I'm going to stop coloring. I'm still a few years away, but I'm sure they think I'm not serious. I am. |
