Many places won't let you go past stage one unless they can pass the test or take the course. The first course is $130 and is basic commands (sit, stay, heel, down, and something else). Kenny knows how to do 3 of the 5 and will do on command mostly. Do i need to waste the $130 to get the others down or is it just good in general to get him training? Thoughts!!!! |

WOW! $130? We did both the puppy and basic classes for $60 EACH. I'd check around. There's got to be other places. Up here in the Dayton area, we have a choice ofr about five places. Certainly in Cinti you should have the same or more to choose from. What part of Cinti do you live in because up here in Moraine is one place that is half of that $130 and it's on the south end of town. Vance |
My thoughts exactly!!! I can't seem to find a good place that does training on Friday or Saturday....my travel schedule makes it too hard to do weekdays as I want to make sure I'm there for each session. Any cinci residents have suggestions? |
What I've figured out is that the groups that hold these classes are also dog people and they won't clutter their weekend with training others dogs when they want to be available to work with their own in shows and competitions. Can't blame them. Warren County Kennel Club offers classes for $65 a class and that's the going rate up here. http://wckcohio.com/training.html Look here for more clubs - http://www.barkbytes.com/sclubs/ohclub.htm Vance |
I found one place that is $180 but is 20 weeks of training (4 levels). It seems like a reasonable deal since it's basically the time frame of at least 3 classes (6 weeks usually). |

Yes, but if you decide their way of training isn't for you & your dog, you are going to be stuck. Have you tried Queen City Dog Training Club? My son used to belong to that when he lived in Cincy & the training price was reasonable & the quality of trainig was good too. |
I don't live near you, but I'll address the part about if it's worth going to a beginner level course where your dog already knows some of the commands - and it's a BIG YES - it would be worth it. The fact that it's a new place (not home), has a bunch of distractions - other dogs and people, new smells - is a really big part of going to class. The actual lessons are only a part of it. I'm a trainer - and I would never just train my own dogs at home. Obviously I know how to do it and could easily teach the skills - but the part about going somewhere with all the distraction and "real life" craziness you get out in public is irreplaceable! You would not believe how often I hear "but my dog does it great at home"... |
Here is the place i found if you've heard of it: Playful Pooches and Parents Dog Training http://www.playfulpoochesandparents.com/index.html The intro for the lady seems pretty legit based on credentials: I'm Lydia McCarthy, owner and dog training coach of Playful Pooches and Parents and I want to help you and your dog be the best you can be! I'll coach you through the ins and outs of dog training, behavior, issues, tricks and much more. Here's some info about me: I was certified through the Petsmart Certification Program in August, 2001. After teaching at Petsmart for a year, I decided to start my own classes. I have had over 1800 dogs and owners come through my classes, with over 100 different pure breeds and many 100's of different kinds of mixed breeds. I have also had challenging breeds such as pit bulls and wolf dogs. I am an evaluator for the AKC Canine Good Citizen and the AKC S.T.A.R Puppy Award. I also teach Therapy Dogs in Training classes and have had many of the dog/owner teams certified as Therapy Dogs |
Is there a humane society around you? They sometimes offer classes. |
What part of Cincy are you in? Gertie |
