This time is Jazzy, she has just turned 6 and seems to be getting a bit stiff at the rear legs, she ok when walking but after a good walk seems to struggle getting up...? But once she is up and moving she's ok again... I think it might be a bit of the dreaded rheumatism and am wondering if anyone has used one of the liquid glucosamine preparations....? I'm looking at FLEXICOS, but it's not very common in the uk....? Anyone any clues.. Thanks TIM |

Yes, by six she should be on the various joint "juices" now available. She might have poorly formed hips and the rubbing is now getting to her. |
What Susan said. I think I'd also spring for a hip x-ray. She's only six, so it's not age. If not hips, maybe an iffy knee. possibly spondylosis. In honesty it probably doesn't make much difference what exactly is bothering her. You'd still give her supplements, watch her and be prepared to put her on pain meds down the road, but she's so young to be having an issue. I guess it would bother me. Your vet may tell you not to waste your money and could well be right. In any event it is a good time to very critically evaluate her fluffiness, and I don't mean hair , and get any extra pounds off of her if needed. You'd be surprised how much of a difference that can make. Kristine |
Kristine sorta hinted at what I had typed but erased, I'm not sure all these supplements work. I know they didn't for me and later read one of them, glucosamine or condroitain, is basically useless. Still I handed them out like candy around here to the pups, but in the end all ended up on pain meds which seem to work a lot better. Yes, I'd have the dog examined, may be more than "just" arthritis. |
