My question is...did you ever ask a boy out???? Or for the men, were you ever asked out by a girl???? |

| I never did... But I remember the Sadie Hawkin's Day Dances. Both High Schools I went to had this and the girls were supposed to ask out the boys. I never got asked to one at either school... Vance |
| I remember those dances. And we had to bring a lunch for the boys to bid on in an auction. Gack! What a horrible memory. |

Why do we think of February 29th as Sadie Hawkins Day? Tim and I were discussing that yesterday because we both thought that was correct. But, the quick google search I did brought up the Al Capp comic strip of Lil Abner where he basically "invented" the tradition and it took off. He never intended for it to be a set time, but it ended up being an annual event in DogPatch (Lil Abner's town) each year in November.  I knew that was its origin (or at least that's what I'd always heard), but for some reason, I had it in my head it was February 29th, too.So, just curious, does anyone have any more information on its origin and celebration date? |

Yup, we had the dances too. The girls not only asked the boys, but we havd to provide transportation and pay for everything! We also had to dress the part. We wore burlap sacks, hats with braids, carried jugs that said 'hooch', goofy make up and I even blacked out my front teeth. I looked so purdy................  The guys spiffed up too.  |
