An official welcome to the forum Darcy!
It sure is addictive, and since I've been here I get a whole lot less work done too...lol.... but that's ok, it has been a life saver and I learn something new everyday. |
Welcome, Darcy! Panda is just too gorgeous with those big blue eyes!
The best word to describe this forum is addicting. And there's no way to fight it! Chris |
Hi Darcy,
Welcome. I love the name Pandemonium - perfect for an OES. Judi |
Hi Darcy,
I've loved the pictures that you've posted so far. On the one you mentioned it was a photo shoot-- was it for Panda or you? |
Howdy from neighbor in state due east! Nice to meet another hot dog.
Darcy, there is (or was) and OES club in Phoenix. I think they are (were) geared towards showing though. Maybe a group of non-exhibitors could form a fun club......I'm smelling picnic?? Also if you want to get involved (in a small way perhaps) with rescue, Pat Wolter is taking over rescue. Keep your little one cool! How about swimming lessons?? |
ButtersStotch...The photo shoot was for a friend of mine to start his photography portfolio...It was just for fun for me and Panda...He also took my avatar photo....I just love that picture though, Panda the kisser, licker and lover!!!
Sheepieboss....Hi neighbor!!! A picinic would be fun...Why do all the east coast people get to have all of the fun???? Panda is not too sure of the water yet...we dont have a pool, but she has been swimming twice. I think she enjoys racing around after she gets out of the water more than the water itself, but havent tested it this year yet...we'll see... Re: rescue...I dont know how I could help, but I would like to somehow..... How do you keep your pups cool during the summer? |
None of my dogs go into pool , but MO can't stay out of the sprinklers!!! The rest insist on living inside during the heat.
Unlike Phoenix, we do cool off at night, so they can be outside when cool. Otherwise I've got 6 mobile floor rugs over the tile. Well, back East they are many sheepies living in a close environment. Do you realize if you took the area between Anthem and Awatouche (I have no idea how to spell that, LOL) and put it back East you'd have traversed three states!! I get over there about every 6 weeks but never venture below Bell....well OK, Glendale. As for helping with rescue, contact Pat and offer to help......maybe help move a dog from point a to b, do a home check, help with newsletter (if she starts one). There are small ways that really help out. DITTO FOR THE REST OF YOU!! Rescues appreciate a helping hand, no matter how small. |
I liked that picture, too, Darcy. The one you said you used for a birthday card. It was really great - reminded me of an Audrey Hepburn photo - and she is my all time favorite actress!! |
Sheepieboss..next time you are in phx give me a call...do you come out for sheep dog business or fun?? Panda is a sprinkler and hose nut...she loves to bite the water and drag the sprinkler around..do you have Pats number?
Tammy...Yep!! Audrey was the look we were going for...Too bad I look nothing like her...Thats one of the reasons why I like the picture so much...you cant see my face Panda on the other hand is very photogenic(sp?) She has all the looks in the family...thick hair, big blue eyes, white teeth, and a perfect figure go figure... |
WELCOME!! I just joined the site earlier this month, and I swear, I'm checking it at least 3x a day (I hope that doesn't make me sound pathetic). So about that picnic....
I live in the midwest, and I've actually found one other sheepie in my city, but I would love to have one big get-together. I was so attracted to your avatar because my sheepdog has blue eyes. And also a 4-ft. tongue. I love that picture...but I'm afraid that Panda might trip over that tongue! I love writing and getting responses, and everyone has been so welcoming to me. So once again, WELCOME!! Post lots of pictures, and I recently posted a video I got in an email, and it's hysterical, so make sure to watch it. You'll crack up. I think it's in the Antics album. I had an even better one with a golden dancing, literally dancing with a partner, but it wouldn't upload. It's a golden and his owner doing a dance to "You're the one that I want" from Grease, so if you want I can email it to you, just send me a message. But I love to hear from all you sheepie owners!!!! I love to hear that you guys understand all the noises and behaviors that come out of my Maggie! Happy sniffing! |
ShaggyMaggie, I have seen that video of the dancing golden...My friend emailed it to me...that was INCREDIBLE!!!! Panda wont even do a sit-stay for more than 30 sec yeah, I check this site toooo many times in one day...my boss keeps rolling his eyes at me I CANT HELP IT ....THE INSANITY OF IT ALL!!! So does Maggie have blue eyes? My husband calls them crazy eyes...and I had one lady at the dog park think I was wonderful for caring for a "blind" dog.....HUH???? Pandas tongue is large...but does it get larger when they "sweat"? |
Oh my gosh, when Maggie goes to the pup park, I swear her tongue will fall out of her head!!! I'm afraid that she'll get another dog caught in the mess of her tongue!!! I should really post the picture of her at the park when her tongue is seriously like a foot long.
Yes, she has blue eyes, and when I see another blue-eyed sheepdog, I'm so incredibly captivated. Her eyes are like ocean blue (sorry that's cliche) and as she gets older, she gets more eyeliner. I posted a picture of her as a puppy in the photo gallery, and then another picture in the portraits section....and it's just so amazing how her eyes have changed since we've had her. I swear she gets more and more beautiful each day. So like I said, I would love to see more and more pictures of blue-eyed sheepies...that's what attracted me to your avatar. It's amazing. And I think I said this on another post, but Maggie's been wading in our swimming pool, and because of the chlorine, her white fur is quickly taking on a shade of green!!! I really need to take a picture...it cracks me up!!! |
Did you see the "Dogs Speaking" clip I uploaded into the photo gallery? I wish I could say my dog does something that funny/amazing/spectacular, but I swear, even now on the site, I watch that clip and I can't help but laugh out loud!
Yeah, the golden dancing is so amazing, especially after you've been training an OES! Just recently I taught Maggie "Give me puppy-paws) which is "shake"! But OMG, it amazes me to see a dog look its owner in the eyes like that! When you watch that clip, you notice that the Golden is always watching the lady's face!!! It cracks me up and depresses me at the same time ! Just kidding...well, sort of............ |
I'm no longer doing rescue, sniff My mother lives in SCW. |
SheepieBoss....Do you bring the "kids" with you? My grandparents used to live there...well, if you want to stop on your way into town, Id really like to meet you!
ShaggyMaggie...I know what you mean...Panda knows what she should do but she is SOOOO stubborn! Panda doesnt shake, but she will give you the high five....Im working on the high ten...she's only done it twice The only thing Panda does on command is poop...go figure...Tommorrow is the day from hell, GROOMING day....bath, haircut and nails....my back is going to kill me...I dont have a table so I do it on the patio floor...yuck.....what hair she loses I gain...in my mouth, eyes and every article of clothing....If she could just be a little more appreciative Blue eyes are the best!!! Her eyeliner has remained the same, but it does make the blue "pop"... |
Hi Darcy! Shame on me for not keeping up on the Introductions and missing a near neighbor. I'll start looking for Phoenix area dog parks for meeting of our Arizona Sheepie Club

I'm really trying to train Maggie because the TDI test is at the end of June. I'm about to take her on a walk just to work on the leash work. I feel that that has been the most important. Once my dog learns to walk on a loose leash and pay attention to me, then I can go from there. But yeah, I've been reading a lot about clicker training, and I've tried it before, but I think if I want to start teaching "unnatural" commands, such as certain tricks, then I really need to get cracking on the clicker training.
By the way, I'm trying to get certified as a professional dog trainer. It's hard, because you have to have experience to get certified, and you have to get certified to have experience. I'm trying to get a job as a PetCo dog trainer, but I feel like I need more experience. So, ok, I have to go walk Maggie, and find some experience as I come across it. If anyone in Southeast Kansas needs a beginnning dog trainer, please please call me. I need both the credibility and the experience. Ok, Darcy, keep those blue eyes blue, and keep me updated on what you've been able to teach your dog! |
Check for training schools in your area, many of them need assistant instructors. If you do that you could get your assistance and learn from how the main instructor interracts with the students and what s/he tells them. |
ShaggyMaggie-
It's too bad you don't live in MI., I have 4 perfect subjects for you Darcy- My stepson and his family live in Scottsdale. They have friends who own pet stores and apparently there are lots of OES in your area. Lucky you living in a warm climate. And a belated welcome Holly |
Holly, Believe it or not, I grew up in Mi....Ive been out here for 18ish years though and do love it!!Im not sure how much Panda loves it but I do keep her really short in the summer...What is the pet stores name?? Id support a local sheepie lovers store!! I have only seen one other sheep dog in the area, and when I take her to the dog park, no one knows what breed she is...I had one lady tell me she was sorry that I had a blind dog???!!! Panda has very light blue eyes but by no means is she blind...oh well... |
What part of MI are you from? There are people here from Ferndale, Redford and Sterling Heights. I currently live near Traverse City but my real home is Shelby Twp.
The next time I talk to Carina I'll find out about the pet store. We briefly considered moving out there but with 4 dogs and the heat decided not to. |
Holly, I grew up in Grosse Pte Woods. My dad still lives there and my brother lives in Clinton twnshp...Everyone else has moved out of state...I dont visit much (id rather have them come out here...) Although, I do miss my dads boat..sigh..nothing like hanging out on the boat all day, drinking beer and fishing |
I grew up in Clinton Twp, lived there until after high school. There is an OES breeder in one of the Pointes, I forget which one.
No Jakes anymore They closed quite a while ago. |
I remember seeing alot of sheepies as a kid...we didnt have one, just 2 goldens...now as an adult, Id rather have a sheepie, they seem so much better behaved than my dads 2 goldens....not nearly the chewing problem!!!! well, if you get out to phx, say "hi" |
