After 3 years of blissful retirement (retirement that was not of my choosing, BTW - was laid off from my job of 29 years to collect my pension), I have accepted a part-time secretarial job at a local church. Will be working 3 hours/day (8:30-11:30), 4 days/week (M-Th). I didn't go looking for this - I was happily enjoying the retired life. For the past 25 years, I have been part-time secretary to my own church (working from home). My minister told me he saw the ad in our conference's newsletter and passed it on to me in case I was interested (or bored). At first I thought - but I don't WANT to go back to work. Upon further thought, I figured it could do no harm to at least apply. Then I literally laughed out loud when I did my resume. Having had only 1 job before my 29 year job, and even listing my church part-time job, my whole resume was only about 3/4 page long! How skimpy, I thought. The kiss of death. But it appears that I had the right qualifications. I have strong office experience in the right software, plus the fact that I work for a sister church and many of the responsibilities are the same. So I accepted the job. I'll still have my afternoons free and will have Friday off, so all in all - I guess it's the best of all possible worlds! |

Congratulations, those are good hours and you may enjoy getting out again. I would love a job like that, there aren't that many up here. |
Hope it is as blissful as it sounds. Our secretary retired from the government labs here and took on the church position. Maybe being very competent has made her job harder. Before the priests and parish council had to rely a lot on themselves.......not now! Several of us help her out when things get crazy. Don't make yourself indespensible. |
Congratulations!! Great hours and schedule--hope you enjoy it! |
Congratulations, great hours |
Congratulations! Those hours do sound delightful. |
Congratulations! I hope you enjoy it. I think it is good for the brain and the spirit to keep busy and a little extra money doesn't hurt. |
Congrats! Cindy |
It must be the season for church jobs! One of my agility classmates is retiring from her job at her church (financial), and was excited it's actually posted as a job in the newspaper. |
I agree those are great hours! What a great opportunity! Conrats! Marianne |
