My little Dylan

My little Dylan came into my life in January. He was a rescue OES that had been beaten and starved of food.
Slowly he started to trust us and would come up for cuddles if we sat quietly on the floor. The morning he came running into our bedroom to give me a nose rub followed by a leap onto the bed for a wash was when i knew we had made a bond with him and that he trusted us.
He was putting on weight and we got him a nice new hair cut to get rid of all his matters.
Then on the Thursday 28th April he started to pee a bit off blood and was rushed into the vets .He had got that weak by friday he had to have a blood transfussion .Saturday when his uncle rob went to the vets to see him he had got up to come home with him.We had thought he was on the mend but on Sunday morning he had got very ill again and wasn't responding to medication and the only option was to put him to sleep. He wasn't even 2 years old.

Dylan had Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia Which means his own body started to breakdown his red blood cells, because his body thought they were a virus, and pee them out.

The reason i am writing this is because OES are prone to this illness and i'm hoping some of you might read this web site .

and learn about this illness.Hopefully you will never need this information but if you do at least Dylan would have helped somebody in his short life.

That is so sad... yes it is a problem more common to oes than many breeds..... and unfortunately there is nothing you could have done...... you gave him love and happiness... that is something to be proud of.... I'm sure he will be waiting for you at the bridge.... happy and ready to give you a nose to nose rub.
I'm so sorry for your loss of Dylan. No matter how short or how long they are with us, it doesn't hurt any less. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you grieve.

I'm very sorry to read of your loss of Dylan. I lost my Sasha last year to the same thing. She didn't want her dinner on Thursday and by Tuesday she was gone in spite of the efforts of four different veterinary clinics. I felt so helpless watching her get transfusions only to have her body destroy the new red cells.

Comfort yourself in the fact that he'll be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. Perhaps he's playing with Sasha right now.
I'm so sorry about Dylan. Take some comfort in the fact that at the end of his short life he had you there to love him and do everything that you could.
Hugs to you. I also went through this with my beloved cocker spaniel. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge last summer after her second fight with autoimmune disorder. The sad part was that each time she got it, I was alway...not there when she needed me.
Thanks everyone for your kind words .

Sandy Sheepie I also wasn't there when Dylan needed me.I had to go away on the friday night .My friend Rob had to deal with the decisions made about Dylan and i was very glad he was there.

I know everything was done for Dylan that could of been done and i couldn't of done it any better but getting over that feeling that i should of been there is hard at the moment.
*hugs* I know how hard it can be. But as others have mentioned at least you were there to give his last couple of months some love. I had to put my Cheeto down last August, and I still miss him at times. Our four-legged friends will always be with us and I am sure he will be waiting on the other side for you to welcome you home:)
How very sad. Take some comfort in knowing that you gave this little guy something so many dogs don't receive........love, joy and a sense of belonging to someone. Thank you for your devotion. I'm sorry you two couln't spend more time together.
Hi,

I was so sad to read this post and my heart goes out to you. Know that in his eyes he finally had the home he deserved and YOU provided him that joyful period before his passing. No doubt you gave him a wonderful home with lots of love.

My condolences and hugs to you. I'm so sorry to hear about Dylan.
