Caitlyn's Tack Box and then some

So as promised, here is our Tack Box and its contents; or at least the stuff that is considered the basics.

Going top to bottom is the Tack Box itself. I got this at Harbor Freight like eight years ago for a mere $29. If you don’t know what a Harbor Freight is and you’re married to a man, ask him. If he doesn’t know, tell him he must turn in his Man Card immediately!

Next is an old pair of hemostats that while they’re really too long, they still work great for those pesky ear hairs.

Then we have my favorite tool, my Resco #80 Comb. This is the Course model.

Then is just a normal combo comb. Both this and the Resco are great for breaking up mats.

Next is a pin brush; make sure you get the neutered brush, one with no balls.

I know a lot of folks have often wondered if I wear blush and let me say it now, I don’t; no usually. The blush brush here is for such things as applying corn starch or baby powder.

Next is a slicker brush. Marilyn did tell me at one point what to get and I showed her the one I already had and she liked it. So that little tidbit of information was not stored away as I didn’t need it then. Someday, I’m sure I’ll be in the market for another and will be asking her again.

The three bottles here are not three different things, but really two. The smallest is Silky Smooth or something like that. Sadly, Caitlyn got the original bottle off the table, started chewing on it and spilled about a ¼ of it. SO I had to put it into a new bottle.

The peach colored bottle is Crown Royal Grooming spray concentrate and the spray bottle is some of that mixed down. I’ll be carrying the spray bottle to shows and leaving the concentrate at home as it it’s a bit pricey. But oh so worth the price!

This second photo is our new hair dryer. It’s a K9 Challangair 2000XL and its AWESOME!!!

And of course, everything is displayed on Caitlyn’s new PURPLE grooming table.

Keep in mind this is probably by no means everything you should have in your Tack Box; it’s just the basics, whether you’re showing or not. OK, maybe the dryer isn’t gonna be in every Sheepies home, but if you do your own grooming it should be. If for no other reason, it’s fun to use!

Hope this helps!
Vance

Thank you so much Vance! This is really helpful--I have some of those things but some I need to order. Really do appreciate your time--it was nice of you to include pictures! :D

The dryer is nice--I have been looking at dryers but get confused and stop--a 'to be continued thing'... Can't decide between the portable and the stand. :lmt:

I will ask here in re to Harbor Freight and hope he can keep his 'man card' -
Good pictures Vance!!

And BTW, I shop at Harbor Freight - I was just there 2 weeks ago!!
Just so you know, I'm stealing your purple grooming table! It's my favorite color......lol

I have noticed looking in other's tack boxes that they also keep all their extra collars and leads in there. After all, the tack box is a toolbox and it's where you keep all your tools.

When I started pinstriping cars, I hung out with a handful of guys who had spent a lot of years working at car shows. One of the most important things I learned during this time was what they brought to shows is what I need to bring to shows. So when time came for me to assemble my first paint box, it was laden with everything any striper would need.

As a result of my excessive observationism was that I carried a LOT of stuff. But I was rarely in a position of needing anything and that was my goal. So do yourself a favor and try to see what others are carrying and decide if what they have is something you want to buy and carry. Here are a few questions you should answer to help decide-
1. Will you actually be using the item at a show and will it be every show?
2. Does the item fit within your budget now?
3. Is the item too heavy to justify bringing to every show?

Many bring their dryer but don't use them. Would you rather have something like this and not need it, or the other way around?

Food for thought,
Vance
I take a lot of things that sometimes I don't use. But I'm a "better safe than sorry" person. I don't take a stand dryer but I do take my tank dryer. I'd rather have that dryer there & not need it that weekend than to need it for clean up on the dog & not be able to get prime areas dry before going into the ring. Heck, I've even used the dryer in the motel room to dry dog boots during a rainy or snowy weekend! Same goes for fans & extension cords. You never know how warm a building is going to be even in the wintertime. You noticed I had 5 pin brushes in my tack box? Reason for that is I have 3 different styles & you never know when one (mainly plastic handled ones) will drop on the floor or crack while brushing. I've had that happen several times. Wooden ones not so much worry other than the pins get pushed down & you need a new one. Teasing combs several styles & several of each. Mostly because people helping me prefer one kind or another, we have 2-3 people sometimes getting a dog ready & you have no idea how many times I have bent the handle on my my metal ones.

So there is a method to & reason for my madness
