This morning I was playing chase me around the island with her when she decided to take a short cut and just jump up on the island I don't know how she missed knocking over the open gallon of milk, glass measuring cup, vase of flowers, and bowls of oatmeal. I was in complete shock!!!! And she was licking my face as happy as could be. I must get this dog to agility.....asap. She is only 18 months and I was told to wait for her to be done growing at 2 years old, but I think she needs it now. Otherwise she is turning our home into her own personal agility course. Anyone had this problem before......any ideas on how to make her stop?????? |

No ideas on stopping...just a request for photos/video |
Video - for sure! You should talk to Judi - she can tell you the places to avoid...I think she found them all in the early days of her training with Harry..... |
jenn, it sounds like you started it. millie looks 100% oes, but must have some afghanhound blood. i've never seen any agility like the day we put a sheepdog and afghan together in the lakehouse. they were unstoppable and uncatchable. twas a laugh riot, nothing was damaged too. btw, can i dogsit millie sometime? would luv to take her over to my ex's house. |

18 mos is a FINE age to start agility classes. Her growth plates should be closed by now. I usually don't start jumping mine at full height until 20 mos plus, but I've certainly had them in classes before then. I have the occasional counter hopper, and frequent table toppers - in fact, I found one of the 4 mos old puppies sitting on my kitchen table staring out the window just the other day. It's somewhat age related. Enjoy it while you can - she will outgrow it. Kristine |
Lily is like this. Her fav is to jump up and run along the back of the couch. |

Hahaha I did start the chase game, but never expected her to jump on the island. Come to sheepiepalooza and see her in action!!!!! I doubt the ex would even know she had been there.....'cause she doesn't break or disturb anything. Not sure how she gets so lucky. No videos of the island hopping yet, but I'll keep my camera ready for next time. I did shoot this video of her sofa jumping...... oh yeah...I'd say agility is in our very near future. |
Sounds like they have monkey blood in them! The next thing will be Millie climbing trees |

We drive the rest of the family crazy with all of our silly fun and games I tried clearing the island and playing chase with the camera rolling but she didn't jump up. Maybe she likes the challenge of not knocking anything over?? Perhaps I'll put some non-breakable things on it and try again. |
The video is fun Our coonhound Maggie is like that. Goes from a stand to on top of the washer and dryer in a heartbeat! Boing! |
You should definitely get Millie to an agility class. It is so good for exercising both their body and their mind. Sounds to me like she is "asking" for both. BTW you do know you are teaching her to jump over the sofa by throwing something for her to fetch over it, right? Just want to make sure you will be o.k. with that when she does it to some visitor sitting on the sofa drinking tea one day. You can start Millie on some low jumps any time. As Kristine said, her growth plates should definitely be closed by now and that is why one does not jump a dog prior to that age. Can you set up some make shift games for her to play now? You can put a broomstick between two chairs or low stools and ask her to jump over the stick on command. If you can find a used (it can be really trashed as long as the legs are sturdy) table that is about 20 inches or so high and approximately 24" x 24" square at a yard sale or a thrift shop you can staple gun a piece of used carpet (or several carpet samples) to the top and use that to teach Millie how to jump up and stay until called off of it on the "pause table" used in agility. These are things you could play with Millie out in the yard. I think this active girl needs some fun new games to play to use her mind and energy or she will invent some you might not be overly fond of. Been there... done that. Linda Zimmerman |
Oh yeah, I think you guys would enjoy agility! Teddy and I love it! Cindy |
Does look like agility is in her future! |
