I know it is a mix of Rosemary oil and Tea Tree Oil but I do not know the actual measurements or amount to use. Any one using it that would let me know what they are doing would be great! |

After years of dolling out money on Frontline and all the variations on it, I found it just doesn't work unless the flea/tick lands right on the line on the back. I keep my dog trimmed short and do a tick check twice a day from Jan-May, that is our season here (warm winters). Oddly, he's never gotten a flea (when on or off Frontline), they must not be rampant in our desolate area. I bath him weekly with lavender baby shampoo. Not sure if more frequent bathing helps, but he's always pest free except for the occasional interloper tick that I spot a mile away being that he has a stark white head and that's where they love to set up camp. They take forever and a day to travel down to the skin, so I catch them early. More work, but better than putting pesticides on or in him. |
Um, are you asking because she is coming to my house and we live in tick-central and I told you to make sure she is up to date on Frontline (LOL)? I am surprised you don't use Frontline for her or some similar poison in our neck of the woods. I know my friend used an all natural alternative that she bought pre-made at the store and her dog had a horrible reaction to it. The pup got so itchy, she was pulling her hair out. It was terrible. Just be careful of anything already pre-made. I have no idea about making your own tick repellent. I hate using the chemicals, but, for the ticks and fleas, I figure I better do it since they are so rampant in this area of the country. |
The one I hear about most often is 10-25 drops rose geranium essential oil in 2 Tbs. almond oil. This is applied to the dog's collar, never directly on the skin or where they can lick. Even this is suggested as a supplement to Frontline. |

It was more than a skin reaction she went crazy, it was mental. We talked to vet at the time and researched all natural alternatives but because it was winter we never went through with anything. We knew we would have to at some point being in Central Jersey get on top of it but we kept putting it off. We will figure it out before she comes to her sleepover with Dahlia. |
I emailed Dahlia's vet who is a friend of mine.... she may know of some natural alternatives that work and she lives in our area and understands the serious tick issue we have. |
I use K9 Advantage on mine and it works great and havent had any side effects with it. My vet tech friend suggested it. You can see the fleas falling off, they look like they are drunk. haha My 3 dogs do great on it. |
