Into this: We have this backseat extension thing which covers the footwells so the dogs have the whole backseat, it's definitely enough for Mady and Virginia, but Mady, Virginia AND Gracie (and at the rate Gracie's growing, she'll be the size of a St. Bernard by Sheepiepalooza )? Short trips maybe, but 40 hours of driving? If we look at putting the backseats down, so they have the whole trunk area, how could we make it more secure so the dogs wouldn't just be sliding around? It's still up in the air whether we can afford the trip this year, and as I told Kim last night, affordability is more likely if we do NOT have to rent a larger vehicle... |

Oh goodness! Do you have another sheepie friend in the area who will be going to SheepiePalooza and can drive with one of the 3? It certainly looks tight with 3 pups in your car for such a long trip. |
I think you should take the girls and buy a proper size vehicle. They should be the ones to decide which one would suit their needs, style and comfort. |
If you give them the whole trunk area I think they will be big enough to not slide around. Or Gracie can sit on Kiims lap. Or perhaps a family member or friend has a larger car you can borrow for the trip. |
Really David, just open the door and they will figure themselves out. In my past life, we had three dogs about the same size and a Ford Escort. They worked it out and all fit. Grant you it was only a six hour drive. |
We used to travel with 2 in the back of the Jeep Wrangler (with no back seat and a metal floor). We gave them blankets for snoozing on, and hooked their seatbelt harnesses to 4' leashes that were attached to the floor anchors, so they had plenty of room to move and find their "comfy spot," but couldn't dash out the doors on us. We drove from Delaware to Illinois like that (with luggage tucked at the back), and they were fine. Benson gets the whole back of the Jeep to herself now: I suspect the trunk plus back seat area will give your 3 plenty of space. |
Reminds me. I can't remember how many dogs I had with me, six I think. Sheepiepalooza - year? I also can't remember who took these pictures and kindly shared them, but much appreciated. I still giggle when I see them (they are part of my screen saver ) Mind you, at least one travelled with a friend, and I think Sybil is also missing from this pic, she was hanging out in Dawn's vehicle with her brother Chewie and Simon. I think I still ended up with a friend's rescue dog in this pic though. Can't imagine why, but I'm pretty sure I see Sadie front and center, maybe Jan had parked too far away. NOTE: no OES were harmed in the making of this picture (or trip) Though they sure better all get along REALLY WELL. What a zoo... After that I gave in and got a van Kristine |
Ahahhahaah that's awesome! I can just imagine all the heads you turned passing people on the highway! I do like the thought of stopping at rest areas and gas stations, and having these 3 bears all come piling out of my car! |
Car top carrier is needed for your stuff, not your pups. Then will there be enough space in the carfor the 3 dogs? We rented one for $36.00 for a week, it made life easy. Love the van full of sheepies@ peg |
David, I put BOTH Brick & Zeke in my Colorado. Mind you, that's a compact REGULAR cab pick-up with bucket seats & manual transmission. Only 2 seats. One for me and one for the dogs. They figured out the seating arrangement. I didn't do it for 15 hours but I did it. |
I remember that Kristine. I think I might have taken that picture, but if not that one, I have some like it that I did take. Too funny. I that was in 2009? Such fun! |
And Tammy...where have you been and are you coming????? |

Y'all are so sweet to ask. Quick answer is: I hope so. We've discussed it and we'd both really like to make the trip. I've got a couple of obstacles, the main one being my work schedule. But if I can figure out how to fix that issue, there's a good possibility we can be there. I'd like for y'all to meet Madison. She's a pistol. But, she's got some socialization issues we're working on with a trainer. I'm not sure she'll be ready for public appearances by then. But, we'll see. Don't count us out yet. |

Oh you can fly Gracie to Orlando and we can take her in our minivan.....if we don't just keep her and not go to St louis. |
I have a hotel "thing" I'll throw out there. I'm coming by myself, and will have Chewie and Bond. If there is anyone who wants or needs to share a hotel room - I would be game for it. I have just used the room alone with my dogs the past few years, but if anyone is looking at costs and maybe on the edge coming or not d/t hotel costs - I would certainly share. Or someone who isn't that comfortable in a hotel room all alone. |
GREAT idea Dawn.....I know we have a couple of 'singlets' attending~~~~ |

I had already mentioned to Tim that we'd want to get in touch with you & David and meet for dinner in Nashville on Thursday evening. I'm still trying to figure out my work situation, but I really hope I can so we can come. Will keep you posted. |
