I didn't bring my video camera as I really didn't think I'd find anyone to ask tape - not many friends were entered. But I did happen to have my camera in the bag, so I'll let this picture sum up the weekend: This was the result of running both of the girls, obviously. They had 10 Qs out of 14 runs, with the table being Mace's biggest nemesis: she would sit but not down, and in USDAA it is always a down. Little troll. Sybil Q'd 6 out of 7 runs. She got carried away in Standard yesterday and missed both the up and the down contact on the dog walk after doing it perfectly twice in gamblers right before that, so I guess the third time is NOT the charm! She was just having too much fun, I guess. Anyway, I don't recommend the venue as a starting point for those of you just getting into agility, especially with your first dog - from the sound of it CPE is a much better venue for green/young dogs and green handlers. But otherwise it has many great things going for it - a more relaxed atmosphere than AKC, games (AKC has a couple, but they are rarely offered in this area), so more runs per day, which is fabulous, and also more chances to practice specific skill sets, you get to watch some of the very best agility/most accomplished teams in the country, and it's just a whole lot of fun. I only had the girls entered in four runs each per day, but I could have done 5. This particular trial was a one ring trial that went veeery long, we were there from 8 am to 7 pm on Saturday, so on Sunday I ended up scratching our last two runs. That, however, is not typical. In AKC my girls' regular jump height is 20". The jump height cut-offs in USDAA are different, so they would need to jump 26" at the championship level in USDAA, which I'm not going to do to them, so we compete in the performance program where they can jump 22" and are up against more sporting breeds than border collies for a change of pace, and the classes are smaller, plus they are running at the P1/P2 (novice and "open"/advanced) level since they are new to the venue, but running in excellent in AKC, so the ribbon count is misleading, but gratifying, nonetheless. Anyway, it's wonderful experience for them and we had a great time. They're highly recommending that Harry try it some time when he needs a break from AKC. The 4-5 runs a day alone should make him very happy. Kristine |

Very sweet. At first glance I didn't see Sybil hiding behind all those ribbons. Yikes on the jump height. Of course bars go down no matter what the height with Harry so it is a moot point. Mad Dog wrote: They're highly recommending that Harry try it some time when he needs a break from AKC. Harry wants them to know he could probably talk his mom into it if Aunt Kristine would find such a trial midway between Milwaukee and St. Louis |
Sybil did seem very pleased with her loot We live just far enough apart that even meeting half way means an overnight stay somewhere, which isn't in the books with the oldies I have. Pity! It would be really fun. We're working on figuring a training get together in March (Cindy, Sandy, me and...?) Just for fun. There really is something special when you get multiple OES together. When are you entered next? Kristine |
Nah, I know that about your seniors, I was just harassing you. (I am sure you appreciate that as much as my husband does ) We are entered in two weeks. We will attempt a three day trial this time...unless my ankle gets too fatigued. Sadly, I won't be making any trips either since I am saving my pennies (and vacation time) for Nationals. |
Wow! Great job! Cindy |
Just look at all that LOOT!!! You and Mace and Sybil had a fabulous weekend in terms of Q's and it sounds like you had great fun there. Well done, Kristine! Linda Zimmerman |
Wow! Look at all those ribbons! That's awesome! Bella and I have only ever participated in USDAA, yes, as a green dog and handler..... and we were, well, pretty horrible. But I never got Bella's IPL to compete in AKC. I've been pretty much out of the agility loop for the last year and a half with the health things going on, but am volunteering this coming weekend at my clubs USDAA trial. With my club, if you volunteer all weekend you get an early entry voucher for classes and "doggie dollars" that you can use to pay for 1/2 the class price, so hopefully we'll start classes again in the fall. No agility here in the summer...too hot!!! And yes, border collies pretty much rule USDAA.....sheepies not so much....We just do performance as I don't want her jumping 26" either. |
Kristine, that is so fantastic. Congratulations! I don't know that I've ever seen that many ribbons. You work so hard with your dogs and are truly deserving! I'm sure your girls' victories were something to see! |
Hey Judi - BOTH the girls are lurking in that picture! Nice haul and a very good % of Q's. I can't imagine how mentally tired you were. That's a lot of courses. Better get that all out of your system before you hit 50! |

I hope you get the chance to get back into it. And ILPing her would be a breeze, should you be so moved at some point. USDAA is not for the feint of heart, no. Very brave of you to start there. We embarrass ourselves the old fashioned way...by starting out in AKC I really need to put together Sybil's much threatened bloopers tape... Kristine |
This is FANTASTIC! I guess I can say "I knew her when........" |
ChSheepdogs wrote: This is FANTASTIC! I guess I can say "I knew her when........" Well, it's SYBIL, you know. You never know WHICH ONE you know any given weekend KB |
Congrats! |
sheepiezone wrote: Congrats! I have to brag when I can. You know OES. Next time out...lord only know what they'll do. Their first time in USDAA they did very nicely, overall. One day. The next time, three months later, it was Sybil. I sent her up the A-frame, I raced to meet her - oh, wait! No Sybil! She caught sight of the judge, turned around HALF WAY UP THE RAMP. Looked at me, jumped off, trotted over and said hi to the judge. Her sister once left the table, without permission, to trot over to the nice male judge and stuck her nose in his crotch... i wanted to crawl down a hole. If we'd been outside, Sybil probably could have dug me one. In the beginning, she thought the command "weave" meant drop and roll when we were outside on grass. All that nice sunshine, fresh smelling grass, what's a girl to do? Honey, we EARNED those ribbons the old fashioned way.... through my hard earned humiliation Ya just gotta have a sense of humor. Or get another hobby. Or another breed. Kristine |

Nice haul of ribbons Well done everyone |
Mad Dog wrote: Ya just gotta have a sense of humor. Or get another hobby. Or another breed. I probably will get her ILP this summer. Considering NADAC since it's so laid back and you can do training in the ring. Bella is just really not a competitor, lol. She does great in classes and I love the activity and the bonding we have when we do it. But she'd rather pose for the photographer than compete, lol. And geez, I'm almost 58 and she's almost 6....USDAA is really intense! I applaud your success there! |

This is the prime of their lives... Finally! You and me? Maybe not so much But there are agility competitors in their 80s... You've got time, girl. You both do. But, of course, you need to do what is fun for both of you. That's what agility is all about and why we love it, right? Kristine |

What the ....???? Lisa told me FOUR! Tiggy just turned 4, I've been watching for her brain to kick in. Sheesh. I'm forty mumble-mumble-mumble too or should I say also. |
Some get it as young as 3-4. so Lisa can't be called an outright LIAR. The Sybils and Tiggys of the world...not so much. It's good to have good friends and good wine to share with same...I won't hazard to guess how many bottles she'd tucked away when she made that prediction... Kristine |
