I wasn't sure if I would be able to run beyond hobbling. I was pleasantly surprised with my running and most of Harry's efforts. There were lots of dropped bars BUT he gave me start line stays, contacts, all twelve weaves (he has been treating those optionally lately) in one attempt and ............ (drum roll) the table!!!!!! Look how happy Harry looks in all of his pictures. Pictures from our Jumpers with Weaves run (four dropped bars) I love a tunnel start - no dropping the first bar LOL Pictures from the Standard run (Two wrong courses and two dropped bars) Check out his contacts!!! And the video from the Standard run - The funny part is the beginning - I had trouble getting the leash off but what is funny is his confusion about the set up. I had him set up to wrap the left side of the jump because it gave him a straighter line from #2 to #3 and minimized him going off course after #2. He understood it completely in the warm-up box with one jump. But watch Harry keep looking behind him at the start like "Why is my back to the course?" and me keep turning his head to #1. He knew that lead nowhere and it didn't make sense. So he backjumped it after going over it. I should have drove him forward to make sure he wrapped but I wanted to get ahead of him with my bum ankle. Oh well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHEq0X2pt3E Now we just need to start working on our jumping foundation exercises so that we can get back to fewer dropped bars. |

WOW!!! Nothing is possibly better than watching a sheepdog do agility or herding or other sports!!! |
I cannot express to you how much I LOVE seeing Harry in action. He just looks so joyful and so darn handsome! |
HARRY DID SOOOOO GOOD!!!!!!! I just want to kno how he can smile AND jump~~~ I video was funny,,,,as you said, he was very confused as to why he was facing the wrong way in his opinion..(and of course we know his is the only one that counts... ) Great JOB~~~~ Team Harry!!!!! |
He had his mind made up that was the way to take the jump........how dare you set him up backward The boy does love his agility.....glad you two are back together! |
Sorry about your break, I must have missed it. Harry looks good, and happy too. It's great to see you and Harry back in competition. He certainly loves it. |
That looks fun and he looks awesome!!! I am showing Pru so she can see what Sheepies are supposed to do with those contraptions |
You are right - Harry looks really HAPPY to be back doing agility with you again!!! Nice work, Team Harry & Judy. Linda Zimmerman & the agility K9's Hudson (OES) & Angel (Golden) |
he really does luv it and i just noticed how gorgeous his coat is. |
Judi, I just watched the video and LOVED watching you two on the course. The pictures are awesome, too. With this breed, I think it is somewhat a matter of finding a balance between wild enthusiasm for the running & jumping and having FUN vs. adding in some small bit of control and precision. You and Harry are already an awesome team. When the fine tuning is done you will be U N B E A T A B L E! P.S. Isn't it something when the only thought you have when you are injured is how much of an impact recovery will have on your agility training???!!! Linda Zimmerman |

Linda, it was the first thing that ran through my head as I heard the snap and fell to the ground in pain when the accident happened "Oh no, what about agility?" And why I was the model patient and was diligent about doing my physical therapy. I think I mentioned it in another post but the first day I walked into the house without my crutches Harry jumped up on me and hugged me. He had been trained not to do that but he was glad to have his mommy back. It melted my heart. |
Bravo Team Harrington! Glad to hear you are on the mend, Judi. You guys are really going to be a force to be reckoned with now! |
You always have the BEST pictures! Glad to hear you are back in action! |
Glad you are all mended and back at it! Harry does look sooooo happy and having so much fun!! |
Great job Judi and Harry! So glad you guys are back doing agility! Cindy |
And the #1 way to know Judi and Harry are back in the ring??? Seven text messages on my cell phone! LOVE that chute picture, especially! How did you get all those great pics???? Welcome back! Kristine |
Mad Dog wrote: How did you get all those great pics???? I splurged on a flash drive from the show photographer. Normally I wouldn't get pictures from runs with so many marks on my scribe sheet but I kind of wanted to celebrate our efforts. We don't have a lot of ribbons or suffixes to show for our journey but our successes have been many. Plus I am not sure another dog will have given me so many laughs (and tears) in the ring. You have even heard of his shenanigans up in Wisconsin. This start line with him doubting my strategy will be just another cherished memory one day. |
Great pictures!! Harry looks great and you can tell he loves doing it |
Millielover wrote: SheepieMommy wrote: Love it. Harry, you are my hero!!! Superman!!!!! Wow I didn't look at this one closely, he looks like he's being shot out of a cannon!!! Harry's awesome! |
Running, jumping, obstacles and a smile on his face...looks like a winning day to me. |
Judy, looks like fun was had by all. That picture of him coming out of the chute is frame worthy! I noticed you said he drops a lot of bars, if you don't mind my asking what height is he jumping? |

Wow Harry did really good, and I love the pictures, congratulations on the runs |

Pam - he jumps 24". You can tell by the jump standards. Judi's just being cagey because she's afraid, well, that's probably not the word that you'll suggest she run him in preferred so he can jump 20" and maybe keep more bars up. For dogs that jump really flat that's really not the solution, but he's not doing that, so it could help. Just don't tell Judi Kristine |

Being as green as I am I would never suggest how someone should run their dog....unless they asked It really is just a curious question. I'm green I can do that. |
In the first picture he's taking off waaay early. I'm gonna guess he took that bar down with his rear legs as the highest point of of his trajectory is before the bar itself, so he's already starting to descend as he's coming over it. Can you see that (2nd pic)? Great job on the photographer's part btw. SheepieMommy wrote: To take off properly he'd have to have adjusted his stride to hit the right take-off point and that might, gasp, require a collection, so he just takes off early and says a few hail mary's (hail fluffies? ) Sybil used to do this over triples until she tried it one too many times and came down on the last bar and nose planted (in a trial) Since then she has jumped them much better. Not that I advocate this approach to learning Just glad she was OK, It's not that he can't physically jump 24", but to jump that height he has to jump properly and wisely. Jumping 20" he could (probably) get away with more of his fly by the seat of his hairy bum shenanigans. Learn to jump and he can do 24". The spreads are a little bit of a stretch for him (no pun intended ), but nothing he can't handle if he actually takes the time to think about what he's doing. That's why Judi mentioned more jump chute/grid training. I didn't realize the first time I looked through her pictures that for once you could actually see what he was doing. Very useful. Judi - great collection of pics. Kristine |

Thanks for handling this Kristine. You forgot to mention - handler errors - mainly late cues. And you will appreciate that sometimes he knocks his stride regulators during grid exercises. We don't call him Hurricane Harry for nothin'. And Pam ..... thanks for the honesty. You would be surprised at how much advice I get from "greener" handlers than you. I get so much unsolicited advice that it sets my teeth on edge. My favorite comment was at a Rally trial where our boy Harry dropped the 16" bar (max height) on the only jump on the course yet again and the "helpful" person said "You know if you took some agility it would help with that" Really? Thanks. |
Holy jumping sheepie! Judi, those pictures of "Hurricane Harry" are just fabulous and to be treasured. He could be the poster boy of happiness in those pictures. Anyone trying to give you unsolicited advice is just probably jealous and wishes they had such a spectacular dog as Harry. I just can't believe how cute he is flying through the air. |
Thanks, that is really sweet. Though, I doubt there is anyone out there running agility that is jealous of Harry. |
SheepieMommy wrote: Thanks, that is really sweet. Though, I doubt there is anyone out there running agility that is jealous of Harry. Well, I'm jealous of his weave speed,...does that help?? I saw the (commented on) really early take-off picture, and was cringing!! Yep, he needs jump work. Although I can certainly image he was even more happy than normal with your extended time off on injured reserve. So I'm sure that had quite a bit to do with it. Those are great pictures. Here I was ready to compliment Tim on his (improved) skills! I'm happy you both made it through the day and your ankle is well on the way to recovery. |
