My rather large baby, Kobe does this, and boy do I know what you mean about scary. Kobe has a growl, not a mean one, just an attention getter, when he does this. I have been watching and from what I can tell this is how Kobe tells us he wants to play or that you aren't doing what he wants. I've learned, over the past couple of months, the best way to get Kobe to stop this is to calmly tell him "NO", "BAD" and "Sit". When he listens he gets lots of love and attention.
For now this is the only way I know, but I will say he is getting better. Yet, alas, he is still a puppy and prone to spurts of energy like that. But we are working on it, and once baseball season is over he gets to go to doggy college and all of our undivided attention. Remember to keep at it, don't be scared or stand down, just firmly let him know that the behavior is bad. Take care, Annette |
oops sorry, meant that it can be pretty scary for the little kids, or even adults that walk down our sidewalk if i happen to have him outside at the time..... he just seems to lose control when he see's a person walking, (other than us that is lol) and no amount of down, stay, sit, no, seems to have any affect as he does his best to get to someone, i can have him outside for hours, and he will never go out of his boundries, until he see someone......
p.s. They are never outside alone, and ofcourse dunkn follows what ever tuc does, and visa versa |
Cesar Millan just released his training video for around $30. He is the best trainer I have encountered, I am sure there are many good trainers out there. Here is a link to his website http://dogpsychologycenter.com/ |
I have the same problem with Mollie. Nothing seems to work because she works herself into a frenzy when any one walks by or attempts to come on the property. How do I break this scary behavior? |
Max does this also, I spend lots of time in the front yard with Max on a leash. He adores sitting or laying in the grass and watching the neighborhood excitement. Lately, he will bark at people when they walk by, if they approach him he can't contain himself, he jumps and just wiggles all over! He's always very sweet with everyone, but just a little too excited, I usually have to hold him down, and then the person can pet him. I've noticed that people who have dogs seem to be able to contain Max better and he will sidle right against the person and let them pet him. Max even has the delivery drivers, garbage man, and mail man trained to stop and give him belly rubs
