Hi! I am very interested in this handsome guy! :hearts: Does anyone have any contacts or know anything about this shelter? Should I proceed to apply thru the shelter or is a local OES Rescue on this? Thanks!
Respond to this topic here on forum.oes.org
He's gorgeous.
Good luck!
Let us know if you get him.
deb,
if you're close, i'd be on my way to the disco. :sidestep:
I wish. Four hours but my in laws live in Pittsburgh. Tempted to tell her to go snag him. We have been searching for a Sheepie for half a year now to rescue and no such luck. :(
deb,
make the call. 8)
he's a good boy, i can tell. lol

:wag: :wag:
I'm with the others; I wouldn't waste any time; he sounds great!
Yay! Thanks for the encouragement, everyone! Wish me luck! I will keep you posted!

Go for it....he is a cutie pie!!!!! :D :D :D :D
forget the phone call you need to go there now!!
I'd be driving there AND leaving messages from my cell phone WHILE driving!!!

Vance
He is beautiful. Go grab him fast, then fill out the forms to Sheepiepalooza!!!! haha

Good Luck :crossed: :crossed:
:( He has to go back to the breeder per their agreement. No adoption for Disco. I am heart broken, but understand. Thank you for all of your support everyone! I am new here and really appreciate the kind words! Our OES is out there. He/she will find us eventually! :hearts:
maybe get in contact with the breeder and adopt from them .
I certainly would contact the breeder. You have nothing to loose but EVERYTHING to gain. Go for it Deb!!!!! :excited: :excited:
Road block at every corner. No such luck with the breeder. The gentlemen I spoke to at the shelter was LESS than helpful. He didn't know where the information was about the breeder or how to get it but he took my name and number down "just in case he finds it." He did say it was someone out of Iowa??
Glad to hear the breeder is responsible and reclaiming their dog.

You might ask the shelter worker to share your contact information with the owner that surrendered the dog
to them. They've got to have that info. Maybe the owner will contact you and share the breeder contact info.

Good luck!
Hi CincyDeb,

I just sent you a PM about a Sheepdog in Houston, TX that I am going to it's Foster Mom. Let me know if you got the message - for some reason I don't see it in my sent box.

Michelle
Hi! I just got your email. I will be touch with you tonight! THANK YOU! :D
So here is the latest! I tracked down the breeder after LOTS of investigation. I reached out to her and she was NEVER notified of Disco's surrender and was VERY upset about it. Her name is Barb Roling from Iowa and runs Roling Acres. (rolingacres.com) She and her husband have been OES breeders for years. She is absolutely WONDERFUL and cares immensely for her Sheepies. I gave her the shelters number and they gave her LOTS of stories and run around and said that he was spoken for by someone from Ohio? Me? I was told different. Anyhow, there was lots of back and forth between her and the shelter but long story short, I am headed that way to retrieve him tomorrow! I am calling the shelter to confirm that they have my info and to expect me to arrive! Wish me luck! I think this is it! :hearts:
 :cheer: :aww:

YEAH!
:excited: :excited: :excited: :cheer: :cheer: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: CONGRATULATIONS!!! See it was meant to be!!!!! :hearts:   Expecting MANY MANY pictures!!!!!
I hope it all works out!

I read this in his description:
" In his excitement over meeting new people, he has a tendency to jump up to greet you. Those behaviors can be addressed in obedience training classes. "

I find the jumping up to be real easy to address. Just put your hands straight out and down in a block, and the dog will bump into your hands. They'll learn real quick jumping is not wanted.
:clappurple: :clappurple: Have been following your story, and the saga of Disco, congratulations! :clappurple: :clappurple:

Looking forward to all the details, and thank you for your persistence in rescuing him :yay:
ha,
doing a lil dance.

YAY!!! so glad you stuck with it. I wonder if someone at the shelter was hoping to take him, if maybe thats what all the run around was about. Either way Im glad things worked out for you. You are getting on handsome fellow!

Ryleigh jumps to when we first come in the door. We also do the hands straight out in front of us and it helps.

Pictures soon please. we LOVE pictures!!! :hearts:
:crossed: For you and Disco. :cheer:
Any updates on Disco today?
Ah, contact the breeder! Don't give up yet!
Hi everyone! We got 'em! :clappurple: :hearts: Once I figure out how to post pictures, I will. It was a long day yesterday but everything came together wonderfully. He is a DREAM! He is a big goffy boy that is and full of love! :hearts: He was great in the car, house trained, super sweet and great with my little kiddos. We even stopped half way in Columbus to get him a bath because he was sooooooooooo stinky! He did VERY well!
The verdict is still out with my senior female dog. He wants to play with her so bad but she is too busy letting him know who the boss is. He needs some traning but so far he is responding well with what we are able to do at home in such a short time. My husband has already taken him out on his roller blades in the neighborhood and Disco was THRILLED to say the least! Things are settling nicely. It's been such a blur and I am so very grateful that he has found us. I am sure I will be asking tons of questions on this forum to come! Thank you for everyone's encouragement!
That's the best news we have all been waiting to hear!!! :yay: :yay: :excited: :excited:

So happy that he's such a great guy, and fitting in well already! Congratulations!!!!
Awesome!!
So glad to hear that he is home, safe, and settling in well.
It will take him a while to unpack his baggage, but I'm sure he'll fit right in.

Keep us updated. And with lotsa pics.
oh WOW!! Congratulations!!! :yay:
ha,
told yah. 8)
 :excited: :yay: :cheer:

:wag:
That is wonderful!!

I hope you and Disco stick around here with us. And pictures, of course!!

We have another member here with a puppy from the same person...Lori, but she hasn't posted for awhile... :lmt:
Great news about his arrival.

So now you can starting planning on some local Sheepie gatherings!! There are several fellow oes.org members right there in Cinti and we're hosting our second annual Sheep-In up in the Dayton are in September - http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=36411

Stick around and get some photos posted as we're all VERY anxious to see Disco!

Vance
Oh wonderful news!!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Vance! That's awesome! Thanks for the heads up! We are looking forward to it!
:yay: :yay: :yay: Welcome home Disco!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Hope to see you at Sheepiepalooza!!!
so glad things worked out so well. It took our 9 yr old lab about 3 weeks to fully accept Ryleigh when we brought her home. Give them time and the older dog a little extra attention is what worked for us. I think once she knew we still loved her and werent trying to replace her she seemed to accept Ryleigh.

and yes Pictures are a must. There is a thread to show you how to post them.
whoo hoo! that is awesome!

glad the perseverance paid out!

here's to a happy sheepie and family! :clappurple:
:wag: :yay:
YIPPEE!!!!

just checking to see how Disco is doing? Did you keep his name? Any pictures yet??
Hi Everyone on this forum.
I was the person in Ohio that the shelter was holding Disco for.
I had contacted the shelter on the 15th and had several daily communications with the staff. The shelter had apparently talked to the breeder's husband who was ill last week. He was undecided about retrieving Disco. He delayed communicating the situation with his wife. And that delay made the shelter feel that the adoption with us could proceed.

Our family lost our last OES- a wonderful 7 year old fluffball- to spinal cancer. We too have been searching for a new family member for a year. I have grown up with sheepdogs- and have loved one in each decade since 1970.

We were so very excited about adopting Disco. We had set up an appointment to meet him and process the adoption on Saturday. We told our 3,5 and 7 year old that we were getting a pooch- who would look very similar to the pet they loved and lost. They eagerly picked up their Legos and Barbie accessories. I made a vet appointment and other preparations.

And then we got word Friday night that the breeder had made a final decision to retrieve him. I called the breeder immediately and explained our situation. She said that she already had a family in mind who had lost their dog to brain cancer.

Our kids were heartbroken. Our neighbors, friends, and extended family were also disappointed.

Know that there was a very good family- ready to adopt him- who asked all the right questions regarding the breeder- and are now still missing that very special OES family member.

It appears that the excitement on these pages certainly reflected the excitement that was in my world last week. One family is lucky- and one family is sad and misses a wiggly butt.

Best wishes with Disco.
Kathleen in Columbus
sorry you were unable to get this sheepie but Im sure there is one out there for you and your family. There seem to be so many in rescue right now, maybe contact one of the rescue groups if you havent already.

keeping fingers crossed that you will find your sheepie soon. :crossed: :crossed:
kzinzer;

Ryleigh is right; there are a large number of OES in rescue right now! What regionof the US do you live in; maybe we can help point your family in the right direction. You'd be surprised; this could still end quite happily for you, your family, and yet another sheepdog deserving of a good and loving home!

To answer your inquiries:
We have been looking for a new OES family member for a year. We have submitted our application with 3 OES rescue groups. And I check Petfinder daily. So our feelers have been out- are currently out- and we thought we had the perfect match with Disco.
Keep me in mind if any pooch news comes your way: kzinzer@msn.com
I appreciate the palpable love for OESs that the members of this board easily display.
Thanks.
Kathleen

Hi Kathy,
Welcome to the board.

I'm sorry things didn't work out with your family and Disco.

And I hope you don't hold any ill will towards the family that did adopt him and the members of this board.

Now that you've joined, I hope you'll stick around. We can help you find that perfect sheepie.
Hi, Kathy. :) First let me start out by saying that I am sorry for the loss of your pet. :( I am sure I speak for everyone when I say that it is a pain and sadness that runs deep. Obviously, I was unaware of your dialogue with the Shelter. It is curious to me how I was given a much different story by the Shelter and that your situation was never brought to my attention. :( I was urged by many to be diligent in my search from Disco's breeder and to act quickly. I can only assume you found the breeders information too when I posted it on this board. I do feel for your plight as we were in the same situation. I can assure you that Disco is WELL taken care of and it is like that he has been a part of my family all along. :hearts: I agree with the others that there are many more OES out there to rescue. I just spoke to Barb last night and she mentioned to me that one of her customers was surrendering a year and a half old male back to her. Perhaps you can inquire about him? I was also contacted by a really wonderful lady on this board by the name of Michelle. She is in TX and is fostering a young male who should be up for adoption soon once he gets a clean bill of health! His name is Lewie and there are pictures on him on Shaggy Dog Rescues Facebook page! :) They work with a wonderful organization called Roadtrip Rescue. They deliver to Zanesville, Ohio which you know is close to you! :) I hope this helps. I was going to post pictures of Disco and my family but I will not. I do not want to seem insensitive. I do wish you luck and I know your Sheepie is out there too! Best wishes! -Deb :D
Deb - So glad that Disco is settling in nicely! We'd love to see pictures when you feel ready!

Kathleen - So sorry to hear of your loss! Sheepies can take such a large part of our lives/hearts that when they're gone it's losing a family member! I know I speak for everyone when I say that you will get your sheepie!!! You'll find the perfect one and give him/her a wonderful home! We're all praying that it's soon!!! :plead: :plead:

Seriously? That's very sweet of you, but you'd be depriving the rest of us of cute Disco pictures...

You did the right thing, the breeder did the right thing - taking responsibility for a dog she bred, and not going back on her word to you - and, in the end, so did the shelter. It is, of course, unfortunate that someone else also had their hearts set on him, but you didn't do anything wrong and you should be celebrating your new companion - with us! :-) Love his name.

Since there are, apparently, so many dogs in rescue right now, hopefully the other family will find their new fuzzy friend soon as well.

:ghug:

Kristine
Deb,
I am glad you posted today.
I just want to be clear. I did not come across this forum until yesterday. I did my own communications and research about Disco and his background. All my communications started last Wednesday and are documented by email. I found out the name of the breeder last Thursday around noon by GeorgAnn at the shelter. But contacting Barbara directly seemed a nonissue since the shelter told me that RolingAcres had been contacted and the adoption could proceed. (Obviously there was a fundamental problem in that Barbara was not the contact person the shelter talked with.) I greatly enjoyed going to Barbara's website and spotting Disco in 2 photos.
The pooch was put on hold for us Thursday afternoon. We were the Ohio family you were told about. We were the Ohio family you wrote about.
I just want to put out the facts as I know them to be.
OESs incite such joy and passion in us- that I had to respond with our own story.
Enjoy your time with Disco. I'm sure there will be alot of love shared.
Post pictures- the forum wants to share your joy.
Thank you for the lead on Lewie.
Kathleen
Kathleen and Deb;

I see you both as very much kindred spirits, with such very similar situations. I think Disco is so very lucky to have been wanted so much by not one but TWO families, and lucky to have had a breeder that wanted to make sure he went to a good home.

I know it can be tough to find that "right dog" in rescue sometimes. But I think with time it will certainly happen for you, Kathleen. We can't always know why some things go the way they do, but I like to think there's always a reason. So keep your chin up; the prefect addition to your family will come!

~Allison
The people in this forum are fabulous. Thank you for the support you give to me, to Deb, and to each other.
Someday, I'll post about a new family member. Until that time, enjoy all the wonderful shaggyness that you have at your fingertips.
Best wishes for a wonderful weekend.
Kathleen
Thank you, Kathleen. I am looking forward to seeing posts from you about your new family member. :D
Kathleen, we're only an hour away between Springfield and Dayton. If you ever feel you need a Sheepie fix, let us know. You're more than welcome to come and play.

Also, last year we're started a new annual event here that is held in September. It's called the Sheep-In and you're welcome to come to that, Sheepie or not. Last year, there was a wonderful Sheepie in attendance who was with a rescue and ready to go to a furever home. If by this September you don't have one of your own, this may be a chance to get one, or at least some time to visit some rescue people.

Keep in touch and lurk often!
Vance
Kathleen, I just e-mailed you...

You will certainly get a sheepie soon....especially since you have posted here! I'm sorry it didn't work out with Disco and that he is lucky that two families wanted him when sometimes no families will want them. Please also keep in mind that just because there isn't a sheepie in your state or immediate area, there are lots of people on this forum and through rescue that would be happy to work out some transport to get you the right match... As you will soon find out if you stick around here (and we hope you will) that there are so many loving, caring people here and everyone is routing for you to get a sheepie of your very own!
The search is over! :yay:
With alot of searching and patience, we found the perfect pooch for our family.
Bailey :hearts: joined our family on Saturday!!!
His previous parents had the heart and insight to rehome him.
And we are so happy that they selected us as his new uprights.
He is such a good boy.

Coincidentally, Bailey is a Disco look-a-like!
And it was Disco's breeder who alerted me to Bailey's new home search.

Easter weekend was so exciting and fun. And my heart is full.
There is great joy in having an OES roaming about the house, giving kisses and accepting head and belly scratches, happily accepting treats, looking up with peaceful, chocolate eyes, making the children smile and laugh, and rejuvenating my spirit. An OES completes our family.

I give thanks to the many OES lovers who have given us encouragement on this forum. I give thanks to the many rescue angels who I have communicated with over the past year. And, most of all, I give thanks to Bailey's first set of parents who have entrusted his care to our family.

Happy Spring!!!! Happy OES! Happy family!

wow you need to repost us more on pics so everone will see this so happy he looks sp happy with is new family how old is he?
Woohoo!!
Congratulations!! I'm so happy for you and your family.
Is that a real human baby next to your dog? 8O

Please be extremely careful with any new dog around children!!!! My daughter was bitten by our brand new OES that was supposed to be fine with kids. On our way home and required several stitches. Our new dog almost had to be put to sleep because of this and our child now has a scar to remind us of this.

We learned our lesson the hard way. :headbang:

I had heard about that happening before.
Really good advice... even with older children in a confined space, best to use caution.

I think that's a doll in the little girl's arms though- http://photos.oes.org/albums/userpics/1 ... G_3763.JPG
The baby is a doll in my daughter's lap- not real to us...sometimes real to her.
We took 2 cars to meet Bailey- so that he could be isolated from the children if needed. The youngest child traveled home in the non-sheepie car.
We have been cautious and observing.
He is 13 months old and lovely.
So far- we've only had a child's toy ball and a Barbie doll get some teeth marks. Seems appropriate. We are learning about him- he is learning about us. The transition is going well.
:D
A ball and a doll are the only sacrificial items with a 13 month old Sheepie? I'd say you're doing pretty good! Looks like the kids are thrilled too. Nothing makes house a home like a Sheepie!

So this means you'll have Sheepie to bring to the Sheep-In come September?

Hope to meet Bailey soon.
Vance
Kathleen and family -I'm so happy Bailey found his way into your life!!
