We also have a slicker that we haven't used much over the last few months. Given, that we were gone for a week and I don't think the boarding place brushed him, it is common to find mats after such a short time? We haven't found a ton but a few here and there. We did a thorough inspection of him this weekend and got rid of all the ones we could find and we think he's good but any advice on how often to brush with which brush and what not? Sorry, first sheepie owner and first time finding mats after 7 months. |

At his age and after boarding for a week - yes, you are going to get mats. I found a variety of pin brushes - different brands with different stiffnesses and length of pins - was most helpful. As the coat grows and changes, different brushes are going to do a better job. And what was the "perfect" brush a month ago, may not be it right now. And one brush may not be the best brush for the entire body either. One will work good on part of him, but another will be best on a different part (and hair type or length). That's why I (and likely others) have these big collections of brushes! |
haha thanks for the feedback. I'm sure we'll be accumulating brushes as he gets older. The pin brush seems to work well but the slicker brush may be better for the spots that had mats....based on what we saw. Then again, i'm a newbie so I guess only time will tell. |
