You pull your car into the garage and it backs out the same way, right? You don't go wiggling it in. Evidently not in my garage. Part II of damage to my Jeep The wall jumped out and I smacked the mirror on the passenger side and broke the mirror's plastic casing. I picked up all the little bits and will wait till it gets a little warmer and see how well that super glue really works. I think I need to do remedial back up lessons. |

Sorry about that. Fully understand the garage door jumping out and grabbing the mirror, I've had a few "close shaves" there my self. |
Between me and the kids when they were learning to drive we had a lot of mirrors removed by that darn garage door. Gorilla glue is holding my daughter's mirror on her car along with some black duck tape. Blends right in. |
Superglue doesn't hold plastic. Gorilla glue and duct sounds good. Duct tape does come in colors including animal print. |
OMG - happened to me yesterday!! 1st time I ever have wrecked a mirror in my life. I do have a REALLY narrow garage door. It's old and super narrow. Just clipped the edge of the passenger mirror and hyper extended it back as I backed out o my garage. Broke it. NO glue repair. I even got some 2 part epoxy (plastic weld) and Todd said no way, it won't hold as it has a couple smaller bits that fell out and the spring in it will pop it loose. So I had to stop and get it snipped off - it was flapping against my car. They (dealership) ordered a new one and of course it's several hundred dollars for the part and repair. And my deductible is even higher...oh well... |
This is why Jen doesn't park in the garage even when it's available. Somehow, I'm surprised you didn't find a way to blame this on your husband Vance |

She had to get a new switch for the drivers window, driving in the cold with the window all the way down, of course they couldn't replace the switch, had to replace the whole unit to another few hundred dollars. |

The way mine is attached on the Element, there was nothing really to hold it....I would have been retaping every day Maybe if I drove only on paved roads, but living on gravel and all the bouncing and jarring...it never would stay in place. And that's if it would have been made in a way I had something good to tape onto. I am cheap.. (OK, should probably say "thrifty" ), and really wanted to avoid the replacement, but I drive way too much not to need the safety and use of all my mirrors. It drove me crazy last night not to have it just driving to and from training classes...and again this morning going to work. |
My SUV has a button to fold the mirrors in - which is great if I remember to use it. My mother has an old, large car. I refuse to park it in her single car garage. |
Oh man--I have done that twice! Neither time could I glue or tape it--and it is amazing how much it is to fix the darn thing-- and yes always just under the deductible! Sorry it happened to you! |
Pam, you are having a very exciting life lately! You need a boring week or two! |
Uuuuuuugh My Tahoe has folding mirrors, and they bend in or they bend out. I have to fold in the driver's side or the truck will not fit into the garage. It's that close. When I was driving it every day, I was really good at just going right in without even pausing. Unfortunately, if you juuuust miss, the passenger side mirror doesn't fold, it scrapes the paint both on the mirror and on the garage door frame, transferring paint between them. Or so I imagine. |
just wanted to mention you can go online or call local junkyards, you might get lucky. if it makes anyone feel any better, at my youngests last birthday party, i noticed 3 out of 6 suv's with drivers morrors smashed, gone or dangling. i asked my daughter wth? well, that's rose's 3rd this year, can't do the atm. kathy can't do the new garage, that's #2. andrea is dangerous, we've lost count. |

See, I didn't blame little Bond - when my "oops" happened, I was taking him to go visit the residents at our local nursing home, then to his vet appt to get a shot and exam. |
