Do they have any clue how energetic ONE is, let alone 2 of them? Even I would not be that brave (or foolish!) ...and then the whole 2 littermates problem...I feel for them. All of our labs have been puppies one at a time, with the next one not coming until the other ones are full grown and somewhat settled. Biscuit is actually the only one we've ever had without an older lab ...but Maggie the coonhound has taken over that role very well...even though he outweighs her by 20 pounds...she's a bitch, and she rules. But, they are cute names! I use Fido as my generic dog name in my classes to demonstrate saying commands. |
Oh, I hope they jog, can throw balls for hours, go to the lake frequently, throw balls for hours......did I say throw balls for hours? High energy unless they are older adults. Labs don't grow "brains" until they are adults, but they are just so darn cute being clumsy, stupid but loveable young dogs. My friend, age 73, just adopted a young retriever. When I ask her how it's going her eyes cross, "I hope I live long enough to see this dog settle down." |
Cheryl's family used to raise Labs - so she is fully aware of the time and energy needed to "raise them". Talan- her husband has been blindsided - I'm sure! She's a little bit country, he's a little bit Rock and Roll-- if you get my drift. LOL. And-- there is an additional twist to this story, that I just found out this morning. They originally decided to adopt these puppies 1) Because who can resist those puppy faces, and they fell in love 2) They are a wonderful couple, and Cheryl had just lost her beloved Trevor, a yellow lab that was 13 and as she puts it "her first love- and the love of her life" 3) She was given a severence package from her job, and needed to place her energy into someting positive, like running non-stop after the puppies--- and above all - giving them a great home 4) She was told a year ago, she would never have children- and as she put it " I need to nuture" and this was her way 5) BIG NEWS-- she found out yesterday she is 3 months pregnant!!!!! She told me she is committed to Rover and Fido- and NOW a baby. 6) You notice Talon is not mentioned in this list too much. He is most likely laying on the bed, with a cool rag on his head at this moment. While the puppies play on jump on him If anyone can make this all work-- they can. Life sure has a way of making you hop around, doesn't it! |
Good for them and so happy that she will have a human baby to go along with these. I'm sure it will be a riot for a while. |
20 years younger I'd have a go at 2 lab pups too! When they finally grow a brain, which takes a while, a great companion breed. Man down street always had two at a time. He'd take long walks along the irrigation ditches and his dogs were constantly in the water or dashing into the alfalfa fields to scare up birds. All are gone now, much less fun down at that end of the street. |
How fun! And how crazy! I love the labs that go to our dog park. So freaking cute and energetic. |
