Dog License question

When those of you with dogs who have both registered names and call names, which name do you put on the application for you annual license? Caitlyn is our first with a registered name and call name. I'm guessing we should put her call name for the reason it's called the 'call name'. Just wanted to be sure.

Hmm, I've never lived in a city or town, so I don't know for sure.

My guess would be the call name though. Good question!
Ohio dog licenses are governed by the counties so even if I lived out in the country where I had say a township address versus a real city address, I'm still required to pay $22 a year each to acquire that lovely little aluminum badge of honor that will undoubtedly loose it's coloration in a matter of a month or two if hung on the dogs collar with all the other tags they're required to have on their collar.

I saw on the county auditor's website that the auditor’s office issued 24,152 tags for 2009 and collected over $346,824. The revenue is used to support the county’s humane society. So that's a good thing, right? After all, that's where we found Bentley, our first Sheepie.

We are rural, we have to buy a dog license, but for us it's $3.00 for a neutered dog. They know that there are over 200 dogs in the town but only about 30 people register their dogs, we are rather redneck up here.
That's interesting - to my knowledge in MN they (licenses) only are used by cities - and that's only if they are of a decent size.

I know nearby Mankato (pop 50000) has them, but from what I can tell, very few people actually get them. I guess it's not enforced. I never see city tags on the dogs that come in for classes.
Nice that the money goes to support the area shelter. I gather it's government-run?
Our shelters here are all privately started and operated, and rely on donations.
We have our share of private shelters too.

I was told by our first obedience instructor to take Caitlyn's tags off her lead. I had them on her lead instead of on her choker. When I asked her what to do with them she said put them on my key ring. Her theory is that in a perfect world, I'll be with Caitlyn all the time so I'll have her license with me. I like that but I'm more than well aware that i don't live in a perfect world. But that's where they are, on my key ring...

We are required in NJ to license your dog. You use your dog's call name.... Not the registered name.

You can actually get a ticket in NJ if you don't license your pet. Each town has a different price too!

My town is $15 for a spayed/neutered dog.

They also charge you late fees per month if you don't renew by Jan 31st.

And, you are required every year to show proof of Rabies vaccination.
Jersey sounds very much like OH.

Resently we had a sweet little pit bull mix stop by our back fence all on his own. He came right up to me when I went out the fence and there was a number on his l icense that we called, which was the county. They gave us the name of the dog and owners names, they also gave us the address of the owner so we could take the dog back to their house, which we did. His name was Shadow and his parents were so happy to see him back, they had been looking for him.

So I would have his "call" name put on the license.
good point violet,
i have returned a number of furkidz by calling the county for owner info. 8)

and i have to lol thinking about coming in the backdoor w/em hearing my wife yell, i told you no more dogs. :D :D
It's just a call name for the dog, they don't care about registered name.

We haven't bought county license in ages, but then our guys never leave the property and the gate is kept locked so animal control can't get in. Long hair hides the fact only Harry wears a collar. Shame on us!

Fee varies:

Neutered or spayed dog, cat, or ferret ........................................ $10 (for 3 years)$22
Neutered or spayed dog, cat, or ferret owned by person 62 years of age or older .............................................................. $2 $5
Unneutered or unspayed dog, cat, or ferret ................................ $20 $50
Unneutered or unspayed dog, cat, or ferret owned by person
62 years of age or older .............................................................. $4 $10
A current rabies certificate and proof of sterilization (if applicable) must be presented at the time of applying for a license.
Only a licensed veterinarian can provide proof of sterilization for a sterilized
Use the call name. Here we pay $14.00 per dog. they changed the format of the license paper this year. They no longer ask if the dog is spayed or neutered, the age, male or female, or for the rabies tag number, color or long or short haired (really a moot point since at times mine are shaved & at time in full coat).
They're legal again!!! I used Caitlyn's call name because if you tried to call her by her registered name, she'd ignore you more than if you call her Caitlyn :-) And Zoey is always just Zoey.

Thanks for all those who offered up advice!!

We don't have dog license in the UK
we used to have dog license in uk cost us 7/6d in old money 37 1/2 p in new money but not had license for years

BUT we now need to have our dogs micro chipped .
which if our dogs got lost they will scan.
our dogs are also scaned, when we have our dogs hip scored ,eye tested, they will not do these tests unless our dog is micro chiped,
and when we take dogs to the vets, our vet always checks micro chip is in place
We hae to license here in NY..costs about 3 bucks or so a year...But they give us a spot for the "registered" name and the "call name"...

I figure for the 3 bucks, if my dog gets lost somehow and ends up at the shelter, at least they will be registered and linked back to me...But I will confess, I think the Towns do it just as a way to make some money...
