Have you contacted his breeder? I am sure they will want to know all of these health issues and should also be willing to take him back. |
No I haven't. I got him from some folks in Hemlock, Michigan. |
It is so important that you contact them. I know if one of the pups I produced had any health issues I would want to know. All future breeding plans would depend on having that knowledge. I would also be very upset if one of my dogs ended up in a humane society or rescue because the owners did not contact me to take the dog back. It is in my contract that the dog must come back to me. I really hope you take my advice. |
I received no contract. I went to their home and give the husband the money for the dog and that was all there was to it. |
I just talked to the breeder and she will take him back. Thanks for the help. |
I'm so sorry. Working on it now... |
I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Peabody. I remember when you got him last year. I'm sure this is a difficult decision for you. I went to the Old English sheepdog club of america site and looked up the rescue person's contact info for Michigan. Perhaps, you should reach out to rescue for assistance and advice? MICHIGAN Sandy Petroskey petroskeyplace@sbcglobal.net (734) 451-5553 I also know that there are people here on this website who are part of the Mid-west rescue teams and I am sure they will chime in to give you some advice. Wishing Mr. Peabody a good new furever home.... |
I just got off the phone with Sandy with OES Rescue of Michigan. Please email her at the address below- Sandy Petroskey Old English Sheepdog Rescue of Michigan Plymouth, MI Phone: (734) 451-5553 Email: oesrofmi@gmail.com My concern is that the breeder may just have him euthanized because of his health problems. That might be totally unfair but if I remember correctly, Mr. Peabody was one of a couple of deaf puppies sold for $50. If I'm not mistaken, another deaf boy also went through an all breed rescue downstate last year. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=35127 and a female appeared also on Craigslist. Do you want to look into the rescue option so he might possibly get into a loving home that is able to work on his health problems? He would at least be properly assessed. Please send me a private message if I can be of any help. |
I too wondered what they would do with him. He really is a great dog. The problem is he needs help now. Something needs to be done about his scratching. I don't want this staph dermatitis to any worse. He had 4 seizures that were about 10 days apart, He hasn't had one for 18 days. I just want the dog taken care of. It cost me 75 dollars just for the antibiotics each time he gets dermatitis. As you know when our dogs hurt we hurt. I just want to do the best I can for the dog. |
I just got an email from The same rescue that Jaci mentioned. She tried to post, but it didn't take. Please contact Sandy she wants to help. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |
I just sent Sandy an email. I would like to thank all you folks for helping. |
So glad Sandy is involved--she is a great lady! I wish we could take on another sheepie as we are close but just can't right now. Good luck Mr. Peabody! |
Sandy would really like to talk with you. She tried to post here on OES.org but it didn't go through. Do you think your vet would provide another round of antibiotics? Please call and ask... if it's possible, send me a private message with your vet's name, clinic name and phone number and I'll take care of the prescription. Would you be able to keep Mr. Peabody for a week or so if we can begin to treat his skin problem? One concern is that with his skin beginning to get worse, he will be stressed more going to rescue and that might trigger a seizure. If we can get his skin under control, it will remove one of the stressors and may make for an easier transition for him. If this is not an option, we will find another! I KNOW first hand how hard it is dealing with skin issues. It's expensive and extremely time consuming. I just got Bumble out of the tub because he was scratching. (He's also on another round of antibiotics but it's not the same problem as before... thinking an adjustment in his diet may help.) Please let me know. |
While I'm not in Mr. Peabody's area, let me know if there's anything I can help with. |
What happened to Mr Peabody? The owner sounded so sad he couldn't afford his care...Was rescue involved? I'm not close by but if there is any help I can give, please let me know... |
I think Sandy with OES Rescue of Michigan is going to first see if there might be a more affordable way to manage his skin. It's really sad when a good dog looses a good home so they'll look into all options first. Larry, I completely forgot about this until Sandy mentioned it but we have Meijer stores here in Michigan that offer free antibiotics with a prescription. It looks like there are two in Flint, one in Burton and one in Davison. When Bumble saw the dermatologist down at MSU, he put him on Cephalexin. Not sure if this might be an option to treat Mr. Peabody's skin too. Bumble had been on Simplecef and also Orbax prior to this... they're both more expensive choices. Cephalexin is a twice daily antibiotic instead of once a day but that's not a big deal to me. If he requires it again, I'm going to start requesting a prescription and get it free at Meijer. I'll have to go back twice because he usually requires a 21 day course and it's limited to 14 days... but we shop there anyway. I would like to thank you folks for all your offers of help and would like to give you an update. I took Mr.P to the vet and found out his staph has not returned; He was given a shot to try to stop the scratching. Sandy is very generous with her time and is helping me get Mr.P's tests to find out what he is allergic to besides pork. Things are definitely looking up. |
Thank you Sandy and Jaci for helping out with this baby! Mr Peabody is also very lucky to have a great Daddy willing to do whatever it takes for his boy to be healthy and happy!!!!!! This is so what rescue is about, the dog and people helping people!!!!!!!!!! Kudos MI Rescue! |
Hoping Mr. P is resting easier tonight. |
Yay!!!!!!!!!! Hoping Mr Peabody is doing better soon. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |
Hoping Mr. Peabody is feeling better today! |
This is great news! Larry, my family is in Davison and I know my sister would be willing to help if you need any scripts picked up or anything. Please keep us updated and maybe we can bring Ted and Charlie out for a playdate in the spring! Give Mr. P a big hug for us!!! |
We took Mr.Peabody to another vet yesterday and found out that he does have staph dermatitis again. He has the medication for his problems now and should be ok in time. Thanks again to OES Rescue, Sandy, and the fine folks at OES Org. |
Yay!!! I'm so glad everything is working out. Hope Mr Peabody is feeling better soon. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |
we learned the hard way with one of our dogs that sometimes a 2nd and even 3rd opinion is needed. I hope you are able to keep your baby as it is obvious you love him. Hope he is doing better. |
How is Mr Peabody? Is he still in the same home??? |
Mr. Peabody is still with Larry and doing really well. His skin is greatly improving, he has been seizure free, food issues are better and, all in all, Larry is doing a wonderful job of caring for his puppy. Larry and Mr P are so good together. It is clear that they need each other to make each day a bit more delightful. Lets all pray for continued good reports on Mr P, his improving condition and the joy of being able to spend each day with his daddy Larry. Blessings to all, Sandy OESR of MI |
I'm so glad to hear that Mr Peabody is doing better. I've been thinking about him and Larry. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |
