We have a Sports Rec Center very close, and they hold trials often CPE and AKC. We went and watched a CPE trial a few weeks ago. It was crazy chaotic to me. Our traniner told us that it would be totally different from an AKC Trial. This weekend they are having an AKC trial. We will be stopping by tomorrow to see what goes on at one of those. I noticed on the website that they are looking for Volunteers on trial days. I'll have to give them a shout sometime. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |

I volunteered for years, before I ever was able to have a dog in class. I found it amazingly helpful, as I am a visual learner. Once I can see something, I understand it and it calms my nerves and also makes more sense. And I'm just a dog event freak, so it gave me my agility "fix" until I was able to actually be in the sport! I really didn't think CPE was that different than AKC, either. CPE has more games classes, so you may not know what exactly they are doing in the ring, so maybe that's what they were referring to?? But otherwise, the format and procedures the actual event follows is real similar. So yes, I say definitely go volunteer. I learned a LOT about things I wanted to do with my own dogs, but also feel I learned from other's mistakes and methods, so when I had my own dog in class, I feel it went a lot smoother for us. I also met a lot of people in our area in the sport, so when we were competition-ready, I already had made friends and had people outside of our own class I could talk to and ask questions of. |
