crate training in a dog friendly workplace

Hi Everyone!
I just got my little girl Aiko 2 days ago! She's 5 weeks old and we plan on Crate Training her. Fortunately, My girlfriend and I have dog friendly workplaces but a little confused as to if we should be using the crate there too as well as home. Although the opinion various wildly, it seems that it is recommended to keep them in their crate as long as you can't devote your complete attention to them. Should this be the case at our workplace as well? I have her here now and she is sleeping by my feet under my desk. She hasn't caused any trouble yet other than not using her wee pad but I want her to feel safe and comfortable here as well as my girlfriends office. Let me know what everyone thinks. Thanks!

Congratulations on your new addition!

5 weeks old! WOW! She is incredibly young!!! I hope you don't mind me saying this, but I am just really shocked.
Most puppies are 8 weeks old by the time they go home (some are as young as 7 weeks) I didn't know you could take a puppy home at a young 5 weeks old.

I would definitely do crate training at your work and at your home! She is very young, and can easily get into trouble, so it is safe to have a place to put her and a place for her naps!
Oh not 5 weeks, sorry I meant to type 8! Sorry about that! Thanks for your quick response! I'm wondering if we do go this route if it has to be the same exact crate with the same blankets/toys, etc. or if it can be a different one to reduce the amount of transport...
I was lucky enough to have a dog-friendly workplace for a while as well. I kept my guy in a crate about half the time, and let him roam the office the rest of the time (always with his leash handy, in case visitors came by.) That worked very well for all of us. Especially if I had to step out for a quick moment - no one else had to be responsible for watching my little guy.
We have a metal crate at home and a soft sided crate that we use for travel, or at sheepherding clinics when we need to focus on the instructor and not keeping Mady from the sheep. I think that your pup will get used to both. And as for feeling secure, the crate itself can make them feel secure.
okay.... first of all-

THE DANG CUTEST PUPPY EVER!!!!!

YOU MUST TAKE PICS DAILY AND POST- or I'll never reply to you again

my boy is nearing 6 months and is hogging half the couch. you will NOT believe how
quickly they grow! LOTS of PICS!

okay---- on to question at hand

YES!!!!! CRATE at work!

1- your puppy will need lots of sleep. You don't want her passing
out where she will get stepped on!

2- cords, pens, food, trash, paper, etc.... ALL things puppies love to eat

CRATE= SAFETY

for you and for her. safe for you, so when she's driving you mad, you know
you have a great place for her, and for her...... for potty training, for naps, for
downtime, to get away from rude strangers

SOOOO many reasons

Keep reading on here, hopefully you've done a ton of research while waiting for puppy,
but if not, stay up the next few nights and read whatever you can get on behavior and
training from this site.... WELL WORTH the lost sleep.... and it will save you hours and hours in the long run

okay- that's my 2 pennies

good luck and PICTURES!!!!!! :clappurple:
Thanks so much! I'll be sure to post more pictures in the next few days, she is just so cute its unreal! I will definitely treasure this puppyhood but also looking forward to a great dog for years to come!
