He's not vomiting - but it's an issue at the other end his poo is pretty runny, but sometimes it seems mixed with normal consistency. We started taking him out on friday, and there's trees on our street that drop berries that aren't toxic to dogs, but I've read if humans eat the berries it'll upset their stomach. George seemed a bit unsettled at bedtime over the weekend, but was acting normal at every other time. I think he managed to eat two berries, maybe one on friday, one saturday? I think his tummy has been upset since saturday, so this is the forth day. He's settling again so I assumed tummyache had gone but he's still having back end issues also, he doesn't tend to "empty" in one spot... he always did poo in two different spots most of the time but now he's pooing in lots of different spots rather than going all at once. I assume this is to do with the upset? Apart from starting to go out for walks and eating the berries I don't think anything else changed. we did recently increase his daily food because we realised we weren't feeding him quite enough, could this have disrupted his stomach? If so, how do we solve that? Thanks. Apart from poor George's little tummy, I also have to hose down the yard every day to keep it clean and not stinking |

Yes, excess feeding will cause stomach and pooh problems. Did you increase just 1/4 cup? You increase gradually. Since he is not vomiting, not explosive "dire-rear" let's just blame the sudden food increase. Things should sooth out again. I gave Jack slippery elm capsules for a few days when things got messy. The elm coats the intestines, making them less angry. maybe that would help. |

Thank you. seems okay today, his most recent "movement" wasn't too bad, still lightly coloured and not firm but easier to pick up AND it was all in one place. I'll keep an eye on him and hopefully it'll get better! |

He was still bad yesterday nothing has "happened" yet today but if the situation hasn't improved, I'll have to do something He's absolutely fine otherwise, it doesn't seem to be bothering him! He's 13 weeks, he's been on James Wellbeloved since he started on kibble, could his tummy suddenly now decde it doesn't like it? |
I'd put him on chicken and rice to see if that helps. Puppies do have problems getting their systems started, some are just more tender-tummied than others. He may have eaten something he shouldn't have during is exploration times, reaction to a vaccination, and so on. I didn't realize he was such a young pup. I would go with the chicken and rice or beef and rice, make sure he's getting enough liquids. At any times of further distress, take him to the vet. |
yeah--boiled rice and chicken is our stool firmer here. Ripley our pup recently got into some unknown substance, and a couple days on C/R had his tummy and rear discharge back to normal. |

How's Ripley doing? and we need some picture updates |
thanks everyone. We've only had a morning "movement" so far (firm), and he was down to two decent "movements" a day before his tummy upset so we'll wait for the evening one and hopefully it's all okay |
He has been better but we just had some runnies. Looks like some of it came out at speed as it's up the wall. He seems okay, just feel really bad for him. the only thing he's had apart from meals today was about 1/3 of a little biscuit treat that he's been eating for a couple of weeks and about 1/4 piece of a new treat. He did go on his first car ride out of his carry box today, it was quite long too, maybe half hour there, a walk around the pet shop to get his food then half an hour back. He seemed okay, didn't get sick - could it affect the other end instead? that was about six hours ago, though. the little bit of new treat was probably an hour or two ago. He seems to be conducting his pre-bedtime zoomies at the moment so I guess he's feeling okay. At what point do I need to start worrying? My mum said I should ring the vet tomorrow and ask his advice. |
ouch... Same here with vomiting... Spent yesterday at vet, i even thought there was an obstruction in the tummy. Vet gave some IV fluids to avoid dehydration. Today everything seems normal. Hope same is with your puppy. |
oh no! Hope he's okay. I've been keeping an eye on george and he is drinking so that's a relief. He's acting up a bit more than usual but I can't be angry because I know tummy ache isn't nice My mum is gonna cook him some chicken and rice when she gets home and I'll skip giving him lunch. We realised it first started after we took him out for the first time and the fact it's flared up again when we took him somewhere new and far makes us think it might be excitement or anxiety related so hopefully he's not sick but just upset. Hopefully we can reset his little system. I don't know how to prevent it in the future though when we take him somewhere new He was kind of used to the car I'd say, but first time he wasn't in his box. Last time he went to the vet we drove up to the pet shop and back with George in his box, but this was the first time we took him in. Now I've got to stress him out even more because he needs a bath, he got himself a bit messy |
Poor George . Glad he is on the mend! Pru gave me a scare this weekend too, so it must be in the air. I know I don't like it when she doesn't feel good...it was breaking my heart. I am glad all of our puppies are doing good now and can get back to playing and being their silly selves |
my mum spoke to her sister and she told her that her dog does the exact same thing when they go on holiday, or he gets anxious or excited. We're starving him for tonight and my mum will feed him some scrambled egg in the morning and hopefully he'll be good he has people who want to play with him and I'm reluctant until he's better! |
At only 13 weeks I have to ask...did you change his food recently? Maybe too quickly for him? Has he been to the Vet to get checked for worms and/or parasites? Common in pups that age...Also, maybe giardia or some other parasite? Sometimes pups come home to you carrying something and it will show up in their poop...Easily treated but you need to know...Have you taken a stool sample to the Vet? I wouldn't be co concerned with him pooping in a few different places...My male likes to do the "walking poop"...poops, walks a few steps, poops, and so on! But he is just fine... But lots of loose runny poop, maybe be a sign of a worm or parasite. They can pick it up anywhere...even from the breeder...so if it continues, bring a stool sample to vet...Meanwhile, plain boiled chicken and rice will help him heal...and be sure he gets water. Dehydration can be a problem too with a pup at this young age... Hope he feels better soon! |

Poor George, Frothy is wishing him to get well asap. I was scared to death last weekend, but in our case it was poisoning. Looks like. She chewed on some vicious plant on the backyard. That's what we figured. For two days we are keeping Frothy on diet, no kibbles, rice + chicken, oatmeal + chicken, buckwheat + chicken |
I echo everything Diane (Ashley) said. I would take a stool sample to the vet to see if you are dealing with a bacterial issue or a parasite, especially if your pup has explosive diarrhea. Even though your puppy is drinking water, and not vomiting, diarrhea alone can also cause dehydration if it is severe enough, especially in a small puppy. These issues could also be due to a sensitivity or intolerance to something in his diet, though nailing that down can be quite challenging. We have EXTENSIVE experience with loose stool, vomiting, tummy rumbles, IBD, pancreatitis, and diarrhea here, as Oscar isn't what you would call the picture of health. His digestive issues stem from an autoimmune disorder, which makes him susceptible to all manner of bacteria overgrowth. He is also intolerant to beef, chicken, lamb, fish, corn, wheat, and soy. Most likely, it is something easily treated. If it goes on for more than a day or two, I would be off to the vet with a baggie of doo doo. (My vet has done so many fecal floats on Oscar it's not even funny. ) Laurie and Oscar |
He pooped last night and it was back to normal colour and it was firm. He had scrambled egg this morning and so I guess back onto kibble for lunchtime. If it comes back, straight to the vet, I think. Even with the diarrhea he wasn't over pooping so I don't think he was losing too much fluid. Thanks for all the advice and well wishes! |
Now I've got to stress him out even more because he needs a bath, he got himself a bit messy If bath is going to stress him out! what i would do, is use Baby wipes to get the worse off ,dry with kitchen roll, then use Baby talc/cornflour to conplately dry, then brush/comb gentley , hope this helps |
thanks, I'll keep that in mind! I did bath him in the end, he's terrified of it during it but afterwards he's no worse for wear and he has a great time burning off the adrenaline!! He is fine now, just worried the adventure of going to training will upset his little tummy again!! |

I am glad that George is fine our sheepies do like to worry us when are starting training? you will have a lot of fun |
We start this coming wednesday and runs for six hour long sessions weekly. I just took him out for a walk and he practically dragged me around the block so I can't wait for a little outside help |
