Very cute. My German Shepherd Harley sits on the second step.. doesn't like to swim but enjoys cooling off. This is Pepsi's first time around a pool all he does so far is bark at whomever is in the pool. I hope he likes to swim and gets over the barking thing. I want to show him the pool is OK but he won't let me take him over near the water. What a weirdo...lol

My husband and grandson were going fishing and took Luke with them. They got to the river and let Luke out of the truck, he raced right in the water and started swimming around like he was an Olympic medal winner.
He had never been around water before. Of course they had no blankets or towels and Lu was in full coat |
Every summer we throw the dogs in the deep end of the pool to teach them to swim to the steps in case they ever fall in when we're gone. A couple years ago our 13 year old OES drowned in the pool, so we're very careful about leaving the dogs in the backyard.
Sorry, I know that's depressing, but I'm just trying to say if you have a pool your dogs MUST know how to get out |
My parents dog almost drowned because he fell in the pool when the cover was on.... it wrapped around him, and my dad almost drowned trying to get the dog out. Very scary.... |
I'm afraid to even put out kiddie pool because I know Clyde will just drink all the water and throw up. |
He probably would the first few times, but actually you may find he ends up being less of a water hog once he gets used to having it around all the time. |
LOL!!
ButtersStotch--so funny! I know Barney would do the same |

"The Swimming Pool: Marty Meets Water" [EDIT: Let's see if I can put a video right into a page in the forum -Ron] <embed src="http://photos.oes.org/albums/userpics/10987/The%20Swimming%20Pool.wmv"> |
We tremble in the shadow of the almighty known simply as, Ron.
Technology rocks!! |
Sooo cute! Looks like he had so much fun |
That is so cool, my kids and I replayed the video about 20 times, we couldn't get enough of it |
Haha...thanks so much, I spent like 2 hours playing around with a video editor. I'm glad you liked it. It is the first in my new comedy series about my dogs. I'm still trying to come up with the working title
You guys are the first to see the pilot! Ron, you are great! |
I had to edit out all the barking...he barks right before he jumps in, he barks while he's swimming, he barks when he gets out.
You can tell on the video, he runs over and waits for me to tell him to jump. I guess he has to make sure I'm paying attention, like "HEY! Look at me, look at what I can do!!" He's so funny! P.S. I'll have to take a good picture of his fur...it's turning green from the chlorine |
Also, one other thing....
My baby, Maggie, doesn't like to swim, but she does get in on the steps. Well, twice now, I've looked over and she's squatting on the first step taking a pee!! I've never seen a dog potty in the water! Have you guys ever seen anything like that? |
Now that was great!
I can just see Mr. Martin aka water boy! in full coat jumping into a pool....Carl would have a heart attack!!!!! |
MOST COOL!!! |
Very cool! Roger dives in just like Shaggymaggie's pup. We say 1, 2, 3 he jumps on three. Roger swims sometimes 3 or 4 times a day. He will go in a just sit down on the steps and look around. He also plays a game, we throw all the balls in the pool near the skimmer, he rounds them up with his feet and pushes them in, he can touch the bottom standing on his back feet, it's sort of like doggie basketball. The pool is also his water bowl, he usually prefers it to his dish inside. Roger is in full coat and it is a chore, but what the heck it all about having fun. But we also live in Florida which makes it easier, I just squeeze out his feet and fur, towel him off and walk around the block, he is dry enough for a final brushing before the night is over. |
Great video! We've just started introducing Bailey to the pool. We coax him down the stairs and get him about half way out, then he swims back to the stairs and jumps out by himself. He's OK with it but not lovin' it. I'm hoping that as he sees us spend more time in the pool this summer, he'll get more interested in it. And if not, at least he knows how to get out by himself.

Way cool video!! |
Wonderful! Before you know it he'll be in the diving dog championships beating out those spaniels and retrievers!!
As for peeing in the water.new meaning for "Isle in the Water"?? |
Remy likes to run into the river or lake and walk around...she is in then out then in and out again and so on....so Tag just follows along like it's all good. |
Kind of off topic but this whole thread reminds me of my mom's old Bouvier, Winston. After the kids moved out, it was just mom and Winston on 70 acres of land. Winston lived on the back enclosed porch with the door propped open so he could come and go as he pleased. He was never a runner and Mom never had to lock him up. Anyway, while Mom would be at work during the day, Winston would walk down to the pond that was about 1/4 mile away from the house all by himself to go for a dip and cool off. Sometimes, even while we were there, you'd just see him get up and slowly amble towards the pond, take his dip and come back to join the humans. It was the cutest thing and so normal for him. It's that kind of decision making behavior that really makes me wonder what goes on in their heads! |
Bunker does. As soon as we get to the cabin, she runs down to the water and pees in the lake in front of everyone. JUst Lovely. |
