Painful teeth

Does anyone know of something to put on a puppy's gums while they are teething? Trotter is getting some of his molars, chewing everything in sight, and was hoping someone knew of a "puppy orajel" or something of the like?

I've never heard of anything effective that you can actually put on the gums that would be safe. Ice cubes worked wonders for Clyde when he was teething. I've also heard others suggest freezing Nylabones (same effect as a teething ring for a baby). He wound up loving ice cubes even after he was done teething!
If you can get Oragel into his mouth, go for it.

I saw a special bone at PetsMart the other day that you freeze........just for teething dogs.

Check some of the pet stuff sites on the web, maybe you can come up with an idea. Ice cubes?
All the baby orajel or similar products have in them is a little benzocaine, a mild numbing agent. I don't think it would hurt, but ice cubes in socks works great, though you may never break the sock chewing once you start it. However, if your pup already chews socks *shrug*
Ice Cubes and/or frozen Kongs, paired with sedatives for the humans worked well for us.
Our Bailey Boy is 14 weeks old & really in the "teething/chewing" stage right now. We bought that bone that you fill with water at Petsmart & that was just useless & melted almost as soon as you took it out of the freezer. We have discovered (don't laugh) that Bailey Boy loves the small plastic child hangers! And since we have a ton of them, his toy collection has several hangers for his teething needs. There is nothing to chip off & he'd have to chew for days to chew through one, but he can get it back there to those molars. Hey, it's working for us! Hope it helps you too! John, I need to get some pics of Bailey Boy up on here. Maybe you can walk me through it! :D b
There's a toy called a Chilly Bone that works really well - it's a canvas toy with a sponge in the middle. You soak it and freeze it. It's better than the other frozen bones because when it melts it doesn't leak all over your floor :) You can just keep refreezing it. Bailey liked that, and ice cubes, and frozen kongs. Still using all of the above to keep him cool during the hot summer months.
