Our 11-1/2 year old, Kristy, had a serious health emergency today. I was at a local dog show doing rally with Hudson. While I was at the show early this morning Kristy bloated. Apparently it happened right after I left home at 7:30 am. I fed her and pottied her at 7am and she seemed fine to me. My husband Rhod said she was in obvious discomfort an hour later. He called our vet and they had him bring her in right away. They put in a needle to alleviate some of the pressure, put her on an I.V. and sent him to an emergency clinic for her surgery. The emergency vet clinic has performed the surgery and said she did very well. They want to keep her until Monday. Thank goodness Rhod was TOTALLY on top of it and knew it might be bloat and that it needed to be seen immediately. Neither of us has ever seen bloat but we've discussed the symptoms and that it is life threatening if not dealt with immediately. Kristy's litter mate, Chloe misses her sister (her best friend) and is very worried. She knows something is wrong. Please send prayers, white light, healing energy, positive thoughts or whatever you may call it to Kristy now for her recovery. She is a good girl and pretty darn healthy but bloat is very scary and she is 11-1/2. We can use any help you can send Kristy's way. Thank you so much. Linda & Rhod Zimmerman |

Linda That is so bad, but unbelievably lucky that Rhod was home! It doesn't even bear thinking about what would have happened if you guys were both gone. Have you got to go see her? I will be thinking about all of you and hope her recovery continues well. ...ugh, that is so darn scary.... |
So glad that she did well, how very frightening. Sending big hugs and healing thoughts to Kristy and family Let us know how it goes. |
OMG! My biggest fear is bloat! Thank God your husband was home and able to recognize the signs. I'm sure that is what saved her life! Sending prayers out to you and hoping your baby makes a full recovery When you catch your breath, please update us...and let us know the signs Rhoad saw...We always read about bloat but hearing the signs from someone first hand are so helpful... Sending healing prayers.... |
Oh no! Thank goodness she was able to get treated right away. I hope her recovery is smooth. I will be hoping for the best and anxiously awaiting more news. |
Dawn, they requested no visitors until tomorrow. I will be there as soon as they allow. I'll post an update then. You are right about it being an incredibly good thing Rhod was there as it surely saved Kristy's life. I didn't return until 1pm. Makes me want to take all the dogs with me whenever I leave home now. Linda I'm so sorry to hear about your sweet Kristy. Bloat scares the day lights out of me. Hug her extra tomorrow for us. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |

Oh how scary! I hope that she gets better quickly. |
I always worry about bloat with the way my guys chow down. Thank God your dh was home and knew what to do. White light coming your way and get better Kristy. |
Bloat is one of the scariest things because you can't predict it and you have to act quickly. What a relief your husband was home and knew just what to do! Sending well wishes and prayers that Kristy will soon be home with her family. It's SO hard staying away when they've been so sick. |
That is so scary! Having lost 2 dogs to it over 40+ years I know time is of the essence! How fortunate care was so quick. I hope all is well, no damage and everything tacked in place so it doesn't happen again. |
Prayers & positive thoughts coming Kristy's way. How incredible that your husband knew to even check on her at the time. |
Hope everything goes well, I worry about that too. |
