He is plastered in matts but i dont want him shaved now as its way too cold. I need something that will get rid of them without shaving him down yet Thanks |

A mat cutter. Work a very small area at a time and support from the rear so you aren't tugging on the skin. You are cutting the mat apart so when you can tease it apart and brush, you will get some hair. |
At the bottom of the page is a Mikki Matt breaker and blades- I have something like that one. I prefer how the handle is in relation to the blades; I find it easier to use. |
The matt breaker is much easier to use. If his getting badly matted but you dont want him shaved off then clip out the worst bits, armpits ears inside the back leg. Remember matts hurt, its like having a tight ponytail and making it tighter each day. If your going to have a go at dematting him them use a dematting spray like the stuff, cowboy magic detangler n shine etc. Work it into an area at a time then with your matt breaker pick at the matts dont try to go straight through then when you have done a small area comb it out. Little and often with some special treats after each session |
There is a good chance you'll tug the skin and it'll be uncomfortable, work through the matts from the skin outwards with a sharp set of scissors, after each cut try to seperate/break the matt by hand, you'll loose less hair. |
